It would be great if the Peterson deal got done out of nowhere in a few days. That deal would give everyone a much better idea of where the market is.

Andrew Brandt(former Packers front office/player agent) was explaining on ESPN today that the running back market has been stagnant since 2004 when Tomlinson got his deal with the Chargers and CJ wants to break that market. If Peterson gets his deal done first it might take care of the hard work.

Why trade him...he still freaking has 2 years he owes us on his current contract.

He is not costing us much now, someone correct me if I am wrong....so keep him. Unless someone offers some ridiculous, cannot turn it down offer, I would not even use trade in the language around this situation.

I am trying to be optimistic that this is going to get worked out. But Bud may be getting impatient with these kinds of dealings these days. He is running out of runway to make this thing work and get to a super bowl.

At some point the team should be wagging this dog...not the player. That may be wishful thinking, but dang....:irked:

Yup. Willis signed a 7-year deal with $29 million guaranteed. CJ is now reportedly looking for $39 million guaranteed over the first three years. No way his asking price shot up that much after a (relatively) disappointing season.

The guy just broke all kinds of Titan records and did something only 5 other RB's have done in the history of the game. People were talking him up like he was the second coming. He was on cloud nine. I refuse to believe he would've accepted what Willis got just for the sake of getting a new deal ASAP. It's not like he was broke or anything.

And let's look at this from the other side of the table. The Titans had absolutely no reason to believe that CJ would not have another monster year in 2010. Smart money was on him at least hitting 1600-1700 yards after the kind of year he had in '09. 1,300, while very very good for most, was definitely considered a major disappointment after what he had done previously. No one expected a 700 yard dropoff. If it had been possible to lock him up for $29 mill gtd contract last year I think they Titans FO would've jumped on that. For all they knew CJ was going to have another amazing season and then he would've had some serious leverage for "top playmaker" money.

    Why isn't it "feasible"?

Bud Adams is a billionaire. It might seem crazy, but he certainly could fork over 50 million in a single singing bonus if he wanted.

And then we have CJ under contract for 5 years at a super cheap cap rate, which we can now use to aggressively go after the best free agents (expensive against cap) in 2011,2012 and make a serious run at Superbowl. Hate to say like the Eagles, but like the Eagles this offseason. (They are a poor example because I don't think they will make the superbowl because Vick will get hurt and Vince will suck)

I understand the counter argument, that no owner in their right mind would do that and CJ could just not try and become a benchwarmer and chill with his 50 mil.

And what if he held out in the future after that huge $ faith given to him by Bud Adams? Then I would totally feel like GoT and Ewker right now and I would go all Bengals on him and force him to retire instead of trade him.

I honestly think CJ would have worked hard had Bud done that crazy huge signing bonus deal. I think CJ would want another paycheck in 4 years if he could perform at a top level. Plus I think he wants to be a superstar and you really don't become one by pulling a Haynesworthless. At least not in a good way.

It does? I thought bonuses last year were gravy because there was no cap, therefore they aren't involved in the cap that exists now.

Anybody that says Bud should have just given him $50 million up front is just being ridiculous. Easy to talk about doing it when it is somebody else's money, but none of you would ever do it.
