It's not so much letting them sit to learn 'every small wrinkle' because somethings they won't fully grasp until they are on the field and experience it, but sitting and watching how a pro QB with experience handles situations. Learning small things like moving safeties and corners with your eyes. Learning some defenses and getting accustomed to football in the NFL.

Steve Young sucked his first 2 years in the NFL. Then he sat for a good bit. he turned out ok. I think it's a situation by situation thing. Some QBs are ready on day one but that is rare. Most need time to learn by sitting. I rather play it safe with locker. get him out to soon and could be another Alex Smith.

Reasons to be optimistic? I believe Roos said the timing was off.

You can't have your timing off and have success on offense. We have a new QB, RB that held-out, WR that can be the best in the league if he can stay healthy. Extremely talented line with a new Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach.

Defense is all new as well. We struggled early but got some breaks.. but 16 points? Not bad. That's with your two starting Defensive Ends out.

    We will be fine.

I'm not that worried yet either. I can't say we will be fine or suck either. I did see many good things and for the moment just seems new cast that need some bugs worked out. I don't think it's fair for people to think with a new staff and many new players in a rebuilding year to expect success day 1. I'm in the wait and see mode right now

Hopefully so then the world can see what I've been saying for the last 3 years, that Calvin Johnson is the best receiver in the NFL, hands down.

I won't be overly worried unless we start 0-3. I'm not expecting to beat the Ravens. But even at 0-2, I won't be overly concerned. 0-2 and a week 3 loss at home to Denver will concern the heck out of me though.

Grow up with the whole nonsense bit.
Your in an internet discussion forum its pretty narrow minded to write off other opinions off as nonsense.

Hasselbeck could not move the ball on Sunday.
    That is a fact.
The only score came on a fluke/lucky play to Britt (where Britt did most of the work); Hasselbeck also added one of the dumbest INTs I saw yesterday other then Romo.
Hasselbeck couldn't muster enough points to outscore a QB that barely got any reps in the offseason.
Hasselbeck lead the offense to a whopping 14 points second lowest total ahead of Kerry Collins.

Locker does lack experience but so does every rookie QB.
If experience is all it takes then Gradkowski should start for the Bengals and Derek Anderson should start for the Panthers.

Experience couldn't win a winnable game.
I don't see the harm in CJ suggestion at all.
In fact its exactly the same 'nonsense' that Bill Walsh used during Joe Montana's rookie year.

If Hasselbeck is ineffective again I think it would a great move for Palmer to put in Locker for a series or 2 just to see if he can give the team a spark.

You would be right in saying that 'its pretty narrow minded' if what I defined as nonsense isn't BS that almost every team with a young QB with potential goes through. The vet isn't performing up to the 'fans' (most of them uneducated in terms of the realities of the NFL*) standards and then they start calling for the ROOOOKIE.

    :notworth:

Obviously in the case of Cincy and Carolina the coaching staff feels their rookie QBs give them more positives then their other QBs with experience. In some cases this is true, but Hasselbeck has been to the SUPERBOWL.

How did we get a whopping 14 points, if the only score came on the 'fluke/lucky' play to Britt?

I hope you realize everything influencing our teams play right now. And can see that Hasselbeck is a better QB than he showed, and our team is a better team than what they showed.

I'm saying wait to call for the Rookie when Hasselbeck has thoroughly showed he is incompetent and should have retired in the off-season. To start calling for the rookie week 1 (and it actually started before the season began) is pretty narrow minded.

    Locker isn't near ready, guys.

    Be patient.

We already saw what happens when you toss in a raw QB that isn't ready, didn't we?
