This team has always been good when we get good starting field position from the returns. This rule will limit the points we'll put up.

better than giving the stoolers a game. Watching Mouton butcher punts was pretty darn hard. MM is the best return man in Titans history. Yep even better than Mason.

I don't like mariani I hope he gets cut next year with the new rule he is pretty much useless.

We other player that know how to fair catch a punt.

Mariani needs PERFECT blocking to take anything downfield. He's pretty much on the team because of Mouton and others who have failed at the position.

Sucks Pacman Jones couldn't stay out of trouble, he could have challenged Hester for the record and would still be effective today.

And No way is he better than Derrick Mason...

Pacman was a much better Returner than Marc Mariani, he was much more electric and elusive. Mariani seems like a smarter more even headed player for sure though.

He has 8 PRs this year. He only scored 1 TD on 27 last year (had another long one though).

He has 5.5 YPR this year with no big returns. He had 12.6 last year.

Lets take away his two breakout PR last year from his total (174 yards taken away from 329).

Now for the season he had 25 PR for 155 yards. That's 6.2 YPR, not much better than his current average.

I'm not saying he CAN'T do badly or make bad decisions, but statistically he's only slight less productive than last year if you take away those 2 returns. We can't speculate whether he can break one of those off again because it's far too early. Nobody can make that claim, nor can I claim he'll do as well or better. I just think it's early to say he's lost a step or something because he hasn't returned a big one yet or that he's GOING to return one just because I think he will.

I have just 3 things to add to this conversation.

    1) He has had at least 1 long punt return down to about the 30 that was called back that would up that average. Penalties happen.

    2) Don't you think teams are trying to kick away from him this year? Last year, no one really knew who he was. Then he went to the probowl and people saw what he can do there and over the year. They would be crazy to not factor that in this year.

    3) I still haven't seen where he has fumbled the ball once in his pro career. You have the Denver game which can be argued a few ways, but he never caught the short kickoff at all. He has very good ball control wich can't be said about all the returners.

To pac's credit- I dont think we've seen a player that elusive on returns in years.

Sorry- Devin Hester wouldn't be able to hold Pacman's jock strap had Pac stayed out of trouble.

I still remember that punt return against the Eagles. I think it was back in 2007. He made 2 or 3 guys miss within a space of 2-3 yards and took off straight up the middle for a TD.
