It looks like Hines Ward might be right about the offense needing to carry the team while the defense gets itself together.

The Steelers defense will be down three starters on Sunday. Defensive tackle Casey Hampton and defensive end Aaron Smith were both ruled out for the game and we’ve known for a few days that linebacker James Harrison will miss the contest after having surgery on a fractured right orbital eye socket. Hampton has a shoulder injury and Smith is fighting an ankle injury.

The Steelers will get Brett Keisel back in the lineup and he’s likely to start at defensive end with Ziggy Hood. Chris Hoke and Steve McClendon are the most likely replacements for Hampton. Mike Tomlin said earlier this week that Lawrence Timmons would slide outside to replace Harrison if Jason Worilds was unable to play with a quad injury. Worilds was ruled out as well, so look for Timmons on the outside.

The offensive line will also need to do some shuffling. Left guard Chris Kemoeatu was ruled out with a knee injury. Doug Legursky, who missed last week’s game, is expected to start in his place with Ramon Foster remaining at right guard.

Who they will be blocking for in the running game remains up in the air. Rashard Mendenhall was limited in his return to practice on Friday and is listed as questionable for the contest. Mewelde Moore was the sixth Steeler ruled out after missing practice with an ankle injury. Isaac Redman would start in place of Mendenhall and will likely see a fair amount of work even if Mendenhall is able to go on Sunday.

There was some good news for the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger participated in a full practice Friday and he’s probable to make the start despite his foot injury.

This Steelers team is beat down about as bad as i've ever seen a team be this early in the season.Something tells me these guys won't be making it back to the postseason this year. This game is there for the taking for this Titans team if they play like they've been playing.

Its very bad when defense is the cornerstone of your team and they are depending on a weak offense with no line to carry the team.

If we lose to the Steelers this week it just proves that the week 1 loss to the Jaguars was no Fluke and we realy do SUCK.

I heard one guy on ESPN today (I think it was on the Collin Cowherd show) say, "Look out for the Titans, if they beat the Steelers they are going to win the AFC South".

So we are starting to get some credit. I just hope we don't poop it down the toilet.

Uh... no, it doesn't. It just means that the Steelers were hungrier for a home win and/or that we weren't playing our best.

I would vastly prefer a W on Sunday, but if we lose that's OK, it's not as bad as the stinkin' Jaguars loss or as bad as it would be if we lost 2 weeks later to Houston.

The better team overall doesn't always win. You don't always win the games you are "supposed to" so a win or loss here doesn't mean we are good or we suck..

One way or another - even if they get past us - they're screwed.

Fortunately for them they play the NFC West and still play the Browns twice, Bengals twice, and Chiefs on top of that. That's actually 8 more seemingly easy wins. If they do make the playoffs it will be 100% because they had a cake schedule... Kind of like the 2007 Titans.

I actually think we'll have a harder time if we take Roethlisberger out. Batch may not play as well as Big Ben when he's well, but when your mobile quarterback is stuck being a pocket passer because of a bad wheel, it may work out better if your backup comes in.

I see a great possibility for our defense to look beyond stellar, maybe even score some points on its own.
