There was an article posted on the main page about Jason Jones heading into this off-season. He was moved outside to DE to help out the team but his performance didn't instantly translate at the position. Before the move, Jones was becoming one of our best defensive lineman who was known for being extremely disruptive up the middle.

His debut was filling in for the injured Albert Haynesworth and notching a couple of sacks and some nice tackles for a loss.

With Jones' contract expiring this season, should Jones be re-signed? Should he be moved back to DT? Should he be given another year at DE?

    What are your thoughts?

I think he should be kept and they should strongly consider a move back to DT.

I was very disappointed by the lack of impact that JJ had this yr. I was one guy calling for him to be moved to DE because I thought it would allow him to remain healthy and that he would still be disruptive. The disruptive part just didn't happen.

My one issue with moving him back to DT is that we will be totally bare at DE with Morgan being the only one currently on the roster. Then we have to go get one in FA and go get one in the draft.

I am still confused as to how Gray expects to get pressure. If Babin isn't the type of DE that you want ie smaller, quick, and non-stop motor then where do you find the big quick DE.....unless it is Mario Williams

I'd like to see us bring in an outside DE (draft or FA) and re-sign Ball. I believe he lead the DE's in sacks and he'll provide depth for us at the position. I also believe Morgan will have a much better year in 2012.

I believe our pass rush would instantly improve with Jones and Klug in the middle on passing downs regardless of who's at DE. Those guys just know how to get to the QB from inside.

Yeah bring him back and commit to something with him.

We can't keep telling him to change every offseason. Let's make this offseason the last time we address his weight/physique then run with it.

I swear in the 4 years here he's been a small DT, big DT, small DE, and big DE.

Look at some tape, figure out what he did best, and tell him to do it. Simply put.

I like Jones a lot, he's a good guy to have if he wants to stay. His limited success in 2011 came from being unsure of what to do. New scheme, new job, lot's of uncertainty. He got lots of pressure this year though, but because he's not in front of the QB now, that pressure didn't turn into sacks for him. Everyone loves to rate a DE based on his sack totals, but Jones was effective and needs to stay. He makes the OLB's job a whole lot easier because he occupies the tackle and TE.

I just have this feeling Jones will follow the money, and I know Tennessee it's breaking the bank to keep him. I think Ball comes back too so Jone's isn't an absolute MUST for the front office.

And I don't think him moving to DE is being looked at as something great by the coaches. He knew change was coming, so in order to stick with the team, he didn't have much say on the move outside.

Maybe we are going to make a big push in the first round to get Coples, he fits the mold we are looking for.

I would also like to give a strong look later rounds 2nd and back

    Andre Branch
Vinny Curry ( I feel he can put his hand in the dirt and play DE)
Frank Alexander( he is a beast he is smaller though, but the high motor guy to be a pass rusher, letting morgan and jones anchor the other side)
Julian Miller ( this is my pick in the fourth round West Virginia moved him to DT this year and has been a force, his natural poisiton is DE)

Unless Jones can learn to play defensive end he has no use to us in our new defense. He is not big enough to take multiple blockers on the line at DT and he made 0 impact plays at defensive end next year. Add that to the fact that we already have an undersized pass rushing DT in Karl Klug and there is really no reason to keep him on board.

He is a free agent this year and I think he will be snatched up by a 3-4 team that needs a DE which is really where he should have been playing since day one.

Jones played some DT this year, but not much on 3rd downs.

    That's easy.
What he does best is penetrate the A gap. DE's in TN now play the 6-technique, which doesn't let him get close enough to the inside shoulder of the Guard to do that.
So to get him in his spot, he'd have to be a DT again.

I mean I don't hate him as a DT, he's good there, but he's never had the other DT to keep him from being double teamed. Tony Brown was good but he was hurt, and jumping offsides a lot.

I think Marks needs to go, he's too damn weak to play NFL ball, and Smith is too fat and slow to matter. There's a chance we could move Jones back to DT. I mean Klug is smaller than Jones is so obviously the team still values quick DT's.
