I'm happy with the pick as long as Amano isn't the starting center this year.

Palko is the greatest QB of our generation, so don't even go there.

The draft isn't over. We still have all our picks, we can still get some good defensive players. Again, look at our up-and-coming players:

    Casey - 3rd Rounder
    Klug - 5th Rounder
    McCarthy - 4th Rounder
    Verner - 4th Rounder
    McCourty - 6th Rounder
    Ayers - 2nd Rounder

All good talent, and look where they were taken.

(then of course our busts: Morgan (so far) a 1st & Marks a 2nd)

We can still find VERY good talent in this draft, and have some impact players. Now if we dont touch the DL with our 2nd or 3rd pick, then i'll start to get upset.

    Here's my issue.

Our defense, whether you like it or not, got worse with the departure of Finnegan. Even if you add Wimbley (who isn't a sure thing), you still have gaping holes all over the defense. What I'm trying to say is that our defense is even worse than it was last year. That doesn't win you games, no matter how much you score on offense. Adapting New England's mantra that having a mediocre defense vs. having an explosive offense wins championships obviously was their downfall in the superbowl. Sure, the Giants defense was also sub-par...but their D-line wasn't....ours is abysmal.

If we don't grab a difference maker in round 2 on the D-line, it doesn't matter how many TD's we score on offense, our defense will be our downfall.

I'm not jumping up and down but I'm happy with the pick. I do think we could've traded down a few spots and still got him. But what do I know? Our FO obviously loved him so it's likely some other FO's did as well.

What I like about the pick:
    1. Kenny Britt insurance.
    2. Gives us another playmaker (hopefully) in case CJ and the run game blow again.
    3. Proves to me that we finally, FINALLY have a HC/FO that understands this is an offense-driven league.

I'm excited. And I think we'll still get some help on both lines in the 2nd and 3rd rounds tonight.

Like it was for the Pats, Giants, Saints, and Packers, all of whom had bottom third defenses?

    1. Defense is second fiddle to offense in today's NFL.

    2. Maybe our FO just didn't see any value at our need positions? Maybe they didn't like Mercilus? Maybe they figure the DT's in the second will be as good as what was there?

Yes, we have holes. But you can't get into "fix everything in one draft" mode. It makes you take lesser players over greater, which is bad for the team in the long haul.

I wish we had been smart enough to pass on Morgan two years ago, but we NEEDED one, and got a mediocre one.

At first I was pretty pissed, but now that I look at it I feel much better about Wright.

All along I had a feeling that we may go with a "play maker" on offense such as Stephen Hill or Coby Fleener, but I just didn't figure Wright into the equation mostly because I see him as a slot receiver.

I know receiver was a possibility but with our almost non-existent pass rush and with DeCastro falling along with many of the pass rushing DE's I was shocked we still took Wright. One thing I think this F.O. is guilty of is falling in love with a player and sticking to their guns. I think over the long haul, this way of thinking will come back to bite us but only time will tell.

I've definitely warmed to the pick so I'm cautiously optimistic but he had better come up big his rookie year.

It's a changing game before you needed great defenses to combat the more balance offenses. Now we have highly explosive offenses, and we need to work on getting a fast defense to get to the QB. It's already looking good with Klug, Casey, and Wimbley.

I'm hoping Worthy falls to us, or at least we trade up for him.
