In a traditional 4-3 you don't have a nose tackle, you have 2 DTs that line up over both guards. But you can run a variation of the 4-3 with an NT (nose tackle) and a UT (under tackle/3 tech). The NT in this case would line up over center, or just off center and is there to take on the double team and stuff the run, while the UT is used more to shoot gaps and pressure the QB.

In a 3-4 you have a nose tackle so the reporter was probably just confused and assumed that a NT only plays in a 3-4.

I actually think Martin projects more as a 3-technique (which is the DT in that image above), but I could be wrong. He's getting called nose tackle because that's what he played in his college system.

I think he also projects as a better UT also. They said he could probably learn and play thev3 tech also tho in time

    LOVE MIKE MARTIN!!!

One of the few times the Titans grabbed a player I wanted, I think I had him in like all of my mock drafts :).

Watching his combine performance I can't believe that is a 306 pound human being, he moves so well, he is so athletic it's nuts!

He and Casey are gonna dominate, I can't wait to see the push the two of them get up the middle.

    Fantastic pick Titans!

I would love to think we are transitioning to a 3-4 defense over the next couple of years. This can't be done overnight, but there are several players on the team now that might fit better in a 3-4.

Having said that, Martin would probably need to be around 350 which from what I am hearing he has probably tapped out on weight. Thus 4-3 NT makes more sense for him and the Titans at the moment.

I love this quote about him.

"don’t know if he’ll be a Pro Bowler, but I don’t think anyone will ever want to take a play off when they’re going up against him - or playing next to him."

Sounds like he will compliment Klug extremely well, as well as boost everyone else's strengths around him.

yeah I see this guy contributing right away in the Klug/Casey fashion. I feel SO much better about our DLine now than a few months ago.

    Wimbley>Jones
    Healthy Morgan>recovering Morgan
    Martin > Marks

Then take into consideration that Casey and Klug were solid last year as rookies, and will be coming into this year with a whole offseason to improve, a ton of experience and ready to contribute from day 1. I will give Sean Smith another year since he was still trying to adjust to the 4-3 last season. Plus I feel we have some solid depth across the board.

    Marks can GTFO though

This is great. We got a 2nd round DT in the 3rd

I think Zach Brown gives us tons of versatility. I think he will be able to cover all these new TE (NE, IND).

And get to the passer very early on! I'm liking this draft more and more now.
