whats the difference in starting and playing with the starters late in the game?

I'm just gonna say it was preseason and the Oline, and WR's dont give a crap about playing hard.
at least I hope that was the case.

We're all rooting for Jake, and want to see him play and get experience so that he can grow into the player we expect him to be and lead this franchise to success. I'm sure there are many here who will argue that you can't read too much into Locker's performance in one half against Tampa. However, at this point, I don't see how any other conclusion can be reached other than that Locker just isn't ready to start.

Jake looked uncomfortable and skittish against Tampa. He didn't seem to go through his progressions or look downfield at all. Its like he made up his mind where he was going to throw it without reading the defense at all. He didn't seem to have control of the offense, and his perceived discomfort reminded me of VY. Sure, he could have just had a bad half, and he could light it up in the next two preseason games and prove me wrong (I wish he would). But given the need to pick a QB and get them in synch with the first team before the regular season, not to mention our brutal first 4-6 games, I think Hasselbeck will be the choice. I fully expect to see Locker starting and playing well by the middle or end of the season, but for now, he hasn't seized his opportunity or proven that he's ready to be the guy.

And "The Rifle" shines again. One more game like that and the coaching staff can't deny he's the best QB on the roster.

Seriously, we don't need to put a ton into Locker's performance. His INT was horrid but he also made some good passes that should have been caught. He clearly is more comfortable in the shotgun and moving out-of-the-pocket. Defenses will find ways to contain him in the pocket so he has to get better and will.

I'm not so worried as well. The poise that Locker showed against Atlanta and New Orleans last year was remarkable, and I truly believe that's the QB were gonna get. He may have gotten a bit antsy seeing as it was his first nfl start - and maybe everyone hyping it up to be such a defining moment got into his head a bit. He just needs to relax and have WRs trying to make plays and an OLine that would take a bullet for him and we'll see what he is really capable of.

anyone else think that Locker will probably start against Arizona? the coaching staff knows what they're getting in Hass but not in Locker

I think Locker just had a bad night he didn't look ready, but he just needs more playing time.
Why not let Locker play the rest of the preseason? If he plays much better than he can start. They know what they have in Hass so just let locker play. I just think he needs more reps under center the game hasn't slowed down enough for him to be able to read the defense quick enough, I think that the more he plays, the better he will get! Im sure he will work hard all week and hopefully he will learn from last night and play much better next week!

Locker just needs to slow down. He forced d@mn near every pass last night. He is a very elusive QB though. Just has to slow down and not force throws.

I think the important question is how is he doing under pressure? He obviously put himself under undue pressure to succeed and it didn't work out for him. So maybe he needs to work on that more than he needs to work on his game.

I think, like Keith Bulluck said, he was just trying to make too much happen.

I hated our first series. Three runs??? What are we reverting to Fisherball? We want to see something from Jake and we go out and run the ball three times in a row for a three and out?!?!?!

    Seriously? There's a huge difference...

Teams gameplan for the team's starting QB, not their backup. The Falcons, Saints, and Colts were not prepared for Locker last year.
