Very good article about the players we may cut or try to lower their salary. I believe Hutch will retire, or be cut if he doesn't. Amano will (or at least should) be cut. Those 2 players represent Top 10 paid players for their respective positions. :)

Hawkins is gone as well. Hopefully Hass will allow us to redo his contract to lower his Cap hit this year as well. These moves will allow us to go after some big time free agents....fingers crossed

Not said enough for me, but I think the o-line has been very poorly coached since matthews got here. Funny the linebackers and special teams actually looked good this year and the positon coaches fired. O-line was terrible and has been since Munch became the HC. Being a hall of fame player does not mean you can coach. Suprised that Munch does not take this over himself but this is what happens when you hire your buddies!

If we cut Amano, Hawkins, Hutchinson (retires), and Babs.. that's $12.19 million extra, for a total of $31.69 mil in cap space. That's a ton. I don't see us cutting Hasselbeck, Griffin, Otto, or CJ.

We may be able to rework Hasselbeck backs deal. $5.5 mil is a little high, I would even add another year to his deal, at like 2 mil. Making him has 2yr/7.5 mil remaining, so a total of 3.75m a year. He's 37, but he's just a backup and more of a coach for Locker than anything at this point.

I'd love to cut Griffin, but it's just not going to happen. Ruston totally screwed the pooch on that signing, terrible first signing dude.

So, with my realistic cuts, we'd have $31.69 avail cap room:

Andy Levitre - 5yr/25-30mil, around 5-6mil a year. Puts him in the right around the Top-10 highest paid guards (#10 makes 5.8m/yr on average). I believe he's well worth it, he'd be 31 when his deal ends. Basically, we'd be giving Hutchinsons money to Levitre.

Dom Rodgers-Cromartie - 5yr/48mil, around 9 mil a year. around the same deal that Jonathan Josepth got in 2011. Puts him around the Top-10 as well for highest paid corners. We'd now have 48 mil in DRC and 43 mil in McCourty. But, CB is extremely important in todays league.

    Depth at LB - 1-2mil, likely need a OLB & ILB - that's 2-4 mil.

Velasco resigning, 3yr/10mil (3.3 mil per)

After signing Levitre, DRC, 2 LBs, and resigning Velasco, we still have 9.39 million for rookie signings and additional depth. Pair that with a solid draft class. I'm dreaming Star falls to #10, take another guard with our 2nd. SS in the 3rd, maybe risk our 3rdComp on Mathieu... and we could be looking at , do I dare say it...., playoffs.

I like your thinking on roster moves pmar but no way Levitre only gets $5-6 Million a year. He's gonna get way overpaid. There will be at least a couple of teams willing to break the bank on him.

Jahri Evans got 7yr/56.7 mil, and he was arguable the BEST guard in the NFL when he got that deal. That's $8.1mil a year. $6 mil should be plenty for Levitre. I dont see anyone breaking bank on him, he's a #8-#12 best guard, at best.

And that 19.4 mil should grow by releasing Amano & Babineaux as well hopefully.

    I could see Vasquez.
99% sure that Byrd will be tagged.
Jennings I believe will go to a contender. He's 29, and only has 2-3 more years. Just pure speculation, but I see the Vikings landing Greg.

Titans guard Steve Hutchinson certainly isn’t acting like a player considering retirement, according to quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

The 12-year veteran missed the final four games of the 2012 season after suffering a knee injury that required surgery.

Coach Mike Munchak, who played guard during his Hall of Fame NFL career, said at his year-ending news conference that the 35 year-old Hutchinson — who started 12 games before the injury — had likely at least thought about retirement.

But Hasselbeck said Hutchinson is hardly taking it easy these days.

“He’s been kind of in the group of guys I’ve been working out with,” Hasselbeck said Wednesday at the Titans’ annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at LP Field. “He’s been working out really hard.”

Hutchinson was usually given one day off from practice per week last season, a routine that would likely continue if he returns in 2013.

“I know for him, the position he plays is so physical that it’s going to be one of those situations where, ‘Are they going to work with me?’ — that kind of thing,” Hasselbeck said. “I would assume that played a part in his coming here to Tennessee, knowing you’ve got a head coach in Mike Munchak who understands what it’s like to play the position and what it takes to be successful.

“Sometimes you have people that don’t help you take care of your body and be your best on Sundays. But if there was any team he would play for, it would be (the Titans) I’m sure.”

So, Hasselbeck was asked, it looks like Huthcinson plans on returning?

“He’s working out really hard for nothing otherwise,” he said. “He looks really good to me.”

Hutchinson’s base salary is scheduled to jump from $2 million in 2012 to $4.75 million in 2013. Including bonus money, he would count $6.75 toward the team’s salary cap.
