I thought I'd open this discussion, although I love the Williams hire. He keeps talking about how he needs to change his ways and what not. Any worry he'll be seriously concerned of what he does / constantly watching his back that he may become too soft? I thought it was worth entertaining to get everyone's opinion.

What's the worst that can happen though? If we fail next year then he'll likely not be back either. Unless somehow our defense becomes top 15 or shows a bunch of improvement, then he may become our DC with our new HC after Munchak is canned, and if we improve that much on D then he obviously is the main reason.

Really, at least wait and see what the D looks like next year before making an assumption. For all you know he is keeping it PC cause he just got reinstated. I think the last thing he would do coming off bounty gate is to come out and say our defense is gonna come out and knock the crap out of people. Lets reserve judgement till next season..

Soft or not, he's still way better than Gray.

I wasn't making an "assumption", I was wondering if anyone was concerned about it. My judgment is fully reserved.

I get what you're saying, but honestly what was he supposed to say in those interviews? "I plan on being the same coach I always was." - Sends out a red flag to every news outlet in the country. He's just trying to restore any reputation he can.

He's trying fix his image, but that by no means IMO means he's going to change the way he runs his defense, and fires the team up. I literally can't wait. Hopefully we'll see what we saw towards the end of the season, more blitzing from Ayers and Brown, and if they hit the QB a little late so be it.

If the Refs, and Roger judge us differently than any other team on those kind of hits then they aren't doing their job correctly. They have to keep an open opinion on every team. He's already feeling the heat from the players that got suspended, I doubt he'd pull the trigger on a few late hits.

What I want to see, is more of the "If you have a chance, and you believe it's legal, hit the quarterback, make your presence felt." Even if you don't get the sack, you have to let him know you're there. Make the quarterbacks clock a little quicker in his head on when he has to get it out of there. I felt we did a much better job of that at the end of the season, and hopefully that'll only get better under Williams. Obviously we need to fix some holes in the defense, but I personally love the signing, and don't think Williams will change one thing different other than the choice of words in the locker room. You can fire up players in different ways.
