I could live with the top 16 teams making it at maximum. Top half would seem good to me.

Getting playoff games would do wonders for struggling franchises like the Jags, Texans, Titans, etc. Everybody wants to see a meaningful game.

Heck.. Even the Colts the past 2 years have made it into the playoffs.. with very little realistic belief that they were Super Bowl Caliber. But they got to beat the Chiefs and raise their morale, and respect for the organization.

Sometimes even one solid win in the playoffs makes it all worthwhile.

    Some changes I propose...
8 four-team divisions with ONLY division winners advancing
    No wild cards!

    Draft done by lottery
    Seasonal matchups done by lottery

Four Monday night games - all televised
    No Thursday night games

AFC never plays NFC during the regular season
    Fire NIKE from their contract...

I just made football 10X better.

Some of that is intriguing and will likely come up at the owners meeting one of these years. Next week they decide a lot of things for 2014.

6-10 teams getting a playoff shot. No thanks.
    How about two-hand touch?

This season, the #16th ranked team was the Cowboys at 8-8.

You'd have to go to the 23rd worst team in the league in 2013 to get to 6-10.

I don't see how it's hurting competition. It just makes sure that the winners truly are the best there is.

If you expand the playoffs to half the league - you WILL be seeing teams with losing records making the playoffs. Inevitably you'll see a 6-10 team make the Super Bowl.
This essentially makes the season itself relatively pointless and regular season games will be far less meaningful.
I don't know how that equates "best there is"..
Weak sauce - but that's where the NFL is going isn't it.
