2018 Cap and FA

Before people get their hopes up when it comes to big FA signings next year take a look at the cap situation.

The Titans have about $2 million in space based on what the cap is expected to be. They will likely carry over about about $18 million giving them $20 million.

That is not as much as it sounds like when you consider:

• They need to sign an entire draft class
• Both starting OG are FA and would make a lot more if re signed
• Da'Quan Jones and Avery Williamson are also FA
• There are key backups who are FA as well

Quentin Spain is an RFA and one of the lowest paid players on the team. He is due a giant raise if kept.

Jones is probably gone, Johnson will replace him

Williamson will be hard to lose as we have nothing at ILB beyond him

Unless Levin is going to be ready to start it will be hard to lose Kline

It is highly unlikely Decker will be re signed

Guys who will still be on their rookie deal next year will be valuable as a cheap players. I think this will play a role in cuts this off-season.


Money can be deferred to 2019 where there is more space, $70 million right now, but they have to be careful. Both Mariota and Lewan are FA and will probably take up half that number between them. Both starting OLB will be FA too and expensive to replace.
