THe only thing you can ask for is to field a competitive team year in and year out. If that happens, then it is certainly possible to get hot and make a run through the playoffs. I think Coughlin and the NYG is a prime example of that. Their two SB seasons came out of 10-6 and 9-7 regular seasons, and nobody really had pegged as being serious SB contenders. When you start getting rid of coaches who are fielding competitive teams, you run the risk of going completely backwards. Just look at the 49ers who had a coach who had 3 very good seasons, and they got rid of him after one 8-8 season. Then the franchise immediately returned to being one of the worst in the league.

One good season that isnt even over yet doesnt mean much (and they still have NO, Philly, Seattle, and TN left, so absolutely no guarantee they wont struggle down the stretch). If they end up being 5-11 or something next year, then the opinion of the Rams would go down pretty fast. Josh McDaniel's started 6-2 in Denver, and people were acting like he was basically Bill Bellichick. Of course he was fired 12 games into the next season because his record after his 6-2 start was 5-15. The nature of the NFL is very reactionary, and a lot of times those reactions dont play out anywhere close to being realistic.

And BTW, the Rams are one game better than the Titans at this point and their schedule hasnt been much, if any better. So why are we holding up the Rams as being really well coached, but we want to get rid of our coaching staff? Because of a 1 win difference? And with regards to common opponents so far, the Rams are 3-1 (wins over Jax, Indy, Houston, loss to Seattle) and the Titans are 3-1 (wins over Seattle, Jax, Indy, loss to Houston).

FWIW the rams have already scored over 300 points on offense, we're barely over 200

That's why people should take notice of the Rams...

I am not trying to say people shouldnt take notice of them, they are obviously a much improved team. I am just saying, let's not make them out to be a great team based on 10 games under a new coaching staff. While they have put up a lot of points against teams likes Colts, Giants, Cardinals, in their 3 losses they have scored a combined 37 points. They haven't looked nearly as impressive against the better teams they have played so far.

There is no 3 win combination where the Titans only put up 37 combined points, or a 3 loss combination where they only scored 37 points. The Browns, Bengals, and Ravens would be the lowest point total in a 3 game combination in games we won, , and we scored 59 in those 3 combined. The lowest total in 3 loss combination would be 40 points, which isnt much better than the Rams 37 obviously, but that includes the Dolphins and Texans where Cassell played a game and a half.

Anyway, the Rams have an extremely touch stretch which started last week so I think we need to wait and see what happens with them before we start looking to them as some type of model of how to build a franchise.
