    I hate the Beach Boys but i still voted for them cause A Perfect Circle is overrated and mediocre. Also because i knew it would P*ss most of you off LOL.

    You basically nailed everything I was going to say. I don't see any reason why all popular music has to be a "certain way" just because it happens to be wartime/peacetime/whatever. Music is a means of escape for a lot of people. And in that regard the "happy surf rock" was probably appreciated and really connected with a lot of people during that time. There's a whole plethora of somber war tunes from that time period. I don't think the world needed the Beach Boys to comment on the war or civil rights with their music during that time.

    Though they sang about the surf I never considered The Beach Boys a real surf rock band. They are not anything like The Ventures or Dick Dale.
    They were a barbershop harmony pop group group that knew singing about bikinis would get them some snizz - and XO's ill-informed rants aside, loads of snizz they got. Wacko bonus points for being pals with Charles Manson and Dennis Hopper and having enough sand to make The Beatles copy them.

    I honestly don't need to ever hear The Beach Boys again - but they get my vote because of what they don't have - and that is a sniveling annoyance named Maynard.
