Anyone got any eclectic music they would recommend?

I believe all music has it's place..
That said, these days MTV and corporate radio could push hobos smashing trash cans as the next greatest thing and the herd would blindly buy right into it, so wide audience means squat.. Also there's no such thing as "the most talented band playing today"...

There is a such thing as a most talented band. Might not be understood or agreed with, but yeah. There's a band more talented than any other out there.
And my thing is, if a band has fans they don't "suck". Music is made to please an audience, and if it's doing so, it's serving it's purpose. Whether it's new kids on the block or led zepp. All a matter of opinion, but as long as someone appreciated it, it's good.

A couple of Aussie bands that don't seem to have cracked mainstream Amercian market.

    Wolfmother and Powderfinger

    Wolfmother's myspace site
    http://www.myspace.com/wolfmother

Powderfinger are the best Australian rock band of the last 20 years. While Jet, Franz Ferdinand and others have made inroads in the USA, ask almost any Australian and you'll be told that the finger is twice the band these guys are.

I'd be really interseted in some review of Powderfinger's albums by any americans on this site. How they haven't cracked the American market is beyond me, however I think they are in part comfortable with their home town roots and have probably not tried for globalisation like they could have.

Let me know what you think.

Couldn't find clips of Stumblin and Passenger which are probably my two fave songs by the guys.

How do you measure "talent"? I've been playing music for a long long time and seen alot of talented players. I've seen guys who could've fit right into a band like Dream Theater or Dragon Force - playing all the elaborate scales and sweeping arpeggios and whatnot but at the same time they couldn't convincingly play 3 chords of Blitzkrieg Bop. Musical talent is for the most part perspective - how do you compare the talent of guys like The Reverend Horton Heat, Billy Zoom or Brian Setzer against Yngwie or Ritchie Blackmore. It's not possible - thus no "most talented band"... (and if there is a most talented band out there, they are probably some weekend warriors rocking a chicken wing joint and not anybody we've ever heard of..)

And not all music is made to please an audience. Alot of music is made to simply please the performers playing it...

And I gotta agree about the talent thing with Crud. "Talent", "good", "bad"....all just opinions.

lol gloat, i was waiting for your response. chill out, don't get mad and cry like Thrice does in their songs. They are pretty awful. Should I start calling you "the artist in the ambulance?" all those bands you listed are pretty terrible.

\And good to see you went thru all that effort, going to my myspace just to find something to diss on. Congratulations.
