Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky
Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews is at the start of his coaching career with the Houston Texans. He played 19 seasons with the Oilers-Titans franchise, the final five in Tennessee, but he's been a Houstonian for a long time.

He visited with Sports Radio 610 in Houston recently, and confessed his rooting allegiance had slowly been shifting before he joined Gary Kubiak's staff.

"I'll admit the first couple of years in Houston, I wasn't a big Texans fan," he said. "But really over the course of the last four or five years I've become a big follower of the team and even when they played the Titans it was getting to the point where I wanted the Texans to win."

I think most Titans fans can understand that might have been bound to happen with Matthews settled back in Houston after he retired and with the people he played with gradually disappearing from the Titans' roster -- only punter Craig Hentrich and linebacker Keith Bulluck remain.

He also said he's fired up to be part of the city's first NFL playoff team since 1993.

Listen to the whole interview here. Thanks to Jay D in Houston for pointing me to the link.

This is exactly why Bud should have left the oilers in Houston and kept the new team in Tennessee..

Bruce also stated that... "The Texans are on the verge of greatness." I know I know.... but you gotta admit, that guy knows a thing or two about a thing or two.

The coaching staff is absolutely LOADED with Super Bowl experience and has multiple Super Bowl wins among them. Its just a matter of time before the team gets to the playoffs. Ill take Bruces word over anyone in this forum... its clear he sees the potential of this team thats rounding into form.
