Titans safety Bernard Pollard says new defensive coordinator Ray Horton has changed the mentality of the defensive players in Tennessee, making them hungry to be more aggressive and more physical.

“We were German shepherds in the training phase, but for some reason we transformed to pit bulls, to Rottweilers,” Pollard said. “Preferably, I want to be a lion, but there’s no lions over here, but I’ve got the heart.”

Pollard described last year’s Titans defense as lacking a killer instinct, and he said Horton has changed that.

“We had some great plays, but you look at some games, and we didn’t step on the throat when we were supposed to,” Pollard said. “We didn’t finish it off when we were supposed to, we didn’t get off the field when we were supposed to, so if you look at Coach Horton and the mentality that they’re instilling in players like us, it’s going to be a fun year.”

The Titans’ defense struggled last year in a season in which Tennessee missed the playoffs for the fifth straight time. This year we’ll see if Pollard can back up his talk, or if his bark is worse than his bite.

One things for sure, Pollard is always good for a sound byte.

And this time he's right. Horton is going to make it real easy forgetting Jerry Gray.

Pollard is a great leader on the field and seems to be involved in 80% of plays. He just needs to clean up those penalties.

I can put up with a flag here and there if he is knocking the dog piss out of people on a regular basis.

Yea that approach has a lingering effect on the other team. No one wants to line back up if youre constantly smacking the piss out of them. Pollard is what every SS should be. A guy that comes out of coverage and flies to the ball. As long as Griffin is covering Pollard's ass in passing down, I love how he plays.

My pit bulls are sweet. Maybe Pollard is talking about Vick's old pit bulls. You know, the ones that weren't drowned or shot.

Well we already knew Pollard was going to love Horton's style, let's just hope we see the defense actually perform on Sundays.

Chuck Cecil made Jerry Gray look like a genius. Cecil is by far the worst Defensive Coordinator EVER!
