HEFLIN, Ala. -- Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl defensive lineman Marcell Dareus was arrested Monday in Alabama on drug charges.

The Alabama State Troopers released a statement saying Dareus was arrested Monday night on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dareus originally was stopped for speeding, and the controlled substance charge is a felony, according to the statement.
"All we know right now is what we have seen in media reports and we will continue to look into this," Bills senior vice president of communications Scott Berchtold told ESPN.com.
Dareus was selected third overall in the 2011 draft and is in his fourth season with the Bills. The 24-year-old played for Alabama.
Last season he had 7.5 sacks and 71 tackles, and appeared in his first Pro Bowl.
The Bills exercised the fifth-year option on his contract in April. However, Dareus ran into trouble with first-year coach Doug Marrone last season. He was held out from starting each of the Bills' final two games for violating a team rule.

Felony huh? Shame. He was really becoming a great player. Stupid mistake.

Curious to see how Irsay's punishment is compared to Dareus's.

Sounds like he had some weed and a bong/pipe on him while he was speeding; he might get suspended but I doubt this is a career killer for him.

Nor should it be if it's just weed. However, with it being a felony amount, even if it is, he'll be on probation and won't be able to make another mistake or he's done.

Don't know. I'll tell you this though. I'd be awfully nervous going before a judge in Alabama as a black man.

I wouldn't be surprised if a felony possession in Alabama is something like 1-2 ounces and with him being a bid NFL star it wouldn't surprise me to see this get swept under the rug. NFl players have done way worse any not suffered any consequences so I'd have a hard time believing that Darius is in any kind of real trouble unless it turns out to be something harder (i.e. heroin/meth/coke) or he gets intent to sell tacked on as well.

We should ask Tennessy XO since he works for the Taliban government in Alabamastan. He is the expert on all things Alabama for this forum.

True but he was also the defensive MVP of the 2011 National Championship game and if there is one thing Alabama loves more then racism it college football.
