Brian Dawkins’ run in Denver could be wrapping up
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 23, 2010, 9:48 AM EST
Monday’s night’s 35-14 loss in San Diego will go down as one of the uglier games of safety Brian Dawkins‘ illustruous career.

He missed a tackle that led to a long Patrick Crayton touchdown, and couldn’t handle running back Darren Sproles when he caught a pass and took it the distance. After the game, Dawkins remained in the locker room long after most of his teammates had departed.

“I’m going to continue to fight. That’s just what I do,” Dawkins told Mark Kiszla of the Denver Post. “It’s just a frustrating thing when you’re out there on the field and you start thinking too much.”
Kiszla believes this will be Dawkins’ final year in Denver. His original contract was essentially a two-year deal where the final three seasons easily void. The gamble paid off in 2009, but Dawkins’ play has slipped this year.
The Broncos need to get younger throughout their defense, especially in the secondary. Dawkins, who turned 37 last month, may still have a place in the league as a part-time player if he was in the right situation.
It’s not likely to be in Denver in 2011.

What do you think? I know he is 37 years old, but he would be a temporary upgrade over Chris Hope next season..heck I think any of us could burn Hope in flip-flops with the way he has been playing..you have to admit, the guy is still a beast whether he has a bad game or not. With how terrible the Broncos defense is, I would not play that hard either if every running back ran past my crappy d-line every down.

So your plan to replace one past his prime safety is to bring in another past his prime safety. Not really seeing the logic there

He's better than Hope..plus it'd only be a temporary fix for whoever rookie we draft.

Have you watched him play this year? He's not better than Hope.

Over the past 3 years, Hope has 20 passes defensed, 8 INTs, and 4 sacks; he's played SS exclusively.

Over the past 3 years, Dawkins has 21 passes defensed, 4 INTs, and 4 sacks; he's played FS exclusively.

Statistically, not perceptionally, they are near equals, with Hope having more INTs.

Crappier than than one that has allowed 300+ yards passing in 6 of 10 games? And perhaps the Denver defense is crappier because Dawkins is on the team.
