If he can coach anything like he played, the cows just improved. Had to happen at some point..... Bruce is still the man.

Not a bad hire by the Texans. Good to see all my Titan buddies are so high on the hire.

Adding Matthews to staff a coup for Kubiak

    Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky
If I had to pick one high-profile player I've covered that I would have promised you would never get into coaching, it would have been Steve McNair.

No. 2 on the list was Bruce Matthews.

The Hall of Fame offensive lineman always seemed like a guy who would be done with NFL football when he was finished playing NFL football. He's had a major change of heart after seven years at home.

"I've always had a passion for coaching," he told John McClain. "I wouldn't trade the experience of coaching my sons. This is the right time with my family for me to try coaching on a full-time basis. I think I have a lot to offer. I can't wait to get started."

Last week at the combine, his nephew, USC linebacker Clay Matthews, talked about having Bruce Matthews as one of his counselors.

Now a locker room of Houston Texans will be able to call on him too.

He will start as a bottom rung offensive assistant, willing to be grunt work, though it's hard to imagine anyone sending him for coffee or donuts. I agree with McClain's blog that Matthews is a great get for the Texans.

Matthews good friend, Titans offensive line coach Mike Munchak, went followed this entry path into coaching, and Matthews has doubtlessly consulted Munchak for advice and will continue to do so.

I also agree with McClain that it's hard to get fired up about Gary Kubiak's first candidate to replace Sage Rosenfels: Patrick Ramsey.
