Titans running back Chris Johnson’s cleats ended up raising more than $9,000 for victims of the Connecticut elementary school shooting.

After wearing the names of all 26 victims in the Newtown, Conn., shooting on his cleats during the team’s Monday Night Football game against the Jets back on December 17, Johnson donated the shoes to NFL Auction.

The charitable auction came to a close on Monday night with a final bid of $9.098.88.

Johnson, who spoke with the family of victim Grace McDonnell in the days after the game, said he wanted to help the families any way he could after the tragedy to “try and make them feel better.”

All the money raised from auction went to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund that was established by United Way of Western Connecticut.

Too bad Kobe Bryant didn't wanna do this, $9,000 is good, but that won't last long.

Great effort C.J. makes me proud you're a Titans player.

Good job stepping up after a couple years of bad publicity CJ. Some will dismiss this gesture but I am sure it means something to the community that a football star in another part of the country took the time to care.

It's not that his cleats were worth that much.. Someone just wanted to be nice and donate 9,000 dollars. I have played guitar for events where donated cakes (nice cakes, nothing that special) sold for 500 dollars each for charity..

    Rich people:
    a. like showing off their wealth
    b. impulsively buy in the heat of the moment
    c. sometimes legitimately like doing nice things for people.

    It's a perfect storm.

They would have been more valuable 3 years ago but, it's the thought that counts.
