im pretty sure people do not have an obligation to stop a crime while it is in the act of being committed.

You have no obligation, but if you start you are obliged to finish.

I think they call it criminal indifference. All I know is that is what Seinfeld was arrested for in his last episode. And this will sound really dumb, and I'll probably regret it, but I gotta believe if it was in the Seinfeld last espisode, it's probably true.

Yeah, I've heard stories where someone drops off a friend, and the friend walks to the end of the street and does something illegal. Bam, both are charged.

I do know that if you are with a guy who has a gun and he decides to rob a store at gun point you are just as guilty as he is. If that guy shoots the store clerk you can also be charged for murder or attempted murder. Reason being is because you knew he had a gun and there was a chance he might use it.

"knowledge of intent" is the legal term. Very difficult to prove a person had it beyond "reasonable doubt".

You have to know what, how and when a person intends to commit a crime. Failure to report it is usually lumped in civil suits as negligence as in criminal offenses as accessory or accomplice.
