Rice ran a 4.53.. Had he ran a 4.40 he would be a first rd guy. If people rather draft charles or johnson because of their timed speed that's fine with me because we can get him in the 2nd rd. I agree if we are going to draft a back draft a player who is simply good not because he is a particular type of player..

He is without any doubt the most productive back in this draft. He ran for over 1700 yards in 06 and 2000 in 07 more yards than even mcfadden.

That guy is scary fast, smooth with the ball in his hands too. But what in the world would we do if we had LenDale, CHenry and Chris Williams in our backfield? sounds like too many horses.

 

We aren't renewing Chris Brown, and we tend to carry 3 rbs. Both CHenry and Brown got playing time. CHenry didn't really make the most of his time though. If we were to get Johnson, I think all 3 would get PT.. but I would expect Johnson to get the majority of splits with White. CHenry spells in certain situations.

It may not be a full consensus on these forums, but I don't believe he'll amount to much in the NFL. Yeah he's fast, big, and strong. But he has no vision.

So to answer your question simply, Move CHenry to the back of the line, and insert Johnson ahead of him.

no way he plays runningback for us, HE CAN'T RUN INSIDE. if you want to make him a WR, fine, but there are much more polished WRs on the board.

 

Like Reggie Bush should be used? But do you spend the 24th pick on a player you could take in the 4th rd giving you the same production? that is the real question, like the kid Chad Simpson from Oregon St, he is fast and powerful, never heard of him, but would he amount to the same production based on his combine numbers?

 

Johnson is one of the best athletes in this draft class and one of the fastest players in the nation (4.27-40) because of his very quick feet. He is instinctive in the open field, able to have a smooth change of directions. An outstanding receiver out of the backfield, Johnson runs crisp routes and will extended his hands to catch the ball away from his body. Although, he is undersized, lacks height and needs to add strength to be a big contender in the next level. He gives next to nothing inside and needs to show more while blocking and stop running from contact. Durability is a concern at the next level.

On athletic ability alone, Johnson is worth a first or second round selection. He can take it to the end zone every time he touches the ball. Also, a great kick returner, Johnson will contribute immediately as a KR and change of pace back. He will most likely be drafted in the second or third round, mainly because of his speed and talent. He is not projected as a full time tailback in the next level.

Strengths:
Extremely fast and explosive...A terror in space...Very quick and elusive...Fantastic receiver with terrific (albeit small) hands...Runs good routes...Decent vision and a good cutback runner...Can really turn the corner...A great natural athlete...A very versatile weapon..Also an outstanding kick returner..Still has considerable upside.

Weaknesses:
Lacks the size and bulk that you look for...Not tough or physical...Looks to bounce everything outside and he doesn't offer much as an inside runner..Toughness and durability are issues...Sub par blocker...May be a 'tweener without a true position.

Notes:
Bounced around between running back and wide receiver throughout his college career and could project to either position in the pros...If he stays at running back he will probably have to make his mark as a 3rd down / situational guy and return specialist...Has not yet reached his full potential because he was never afforded the opportunity to concentrate on mastering a single position...A very poor-man's Reggie Bush who can definitely help a team if used correctly...Intriguing prospect.

Strengths: A very quick back with excellent initial burst…one of the fastest RB in the 2008 NFL Draft…he has the ability to stop on a dime and chance direction…he has surprising strength for a relatively undersized RB…able to help out in the return game and on special teams…was used as a receiver at times in college and has excellent hands, which helps his overall upside moving forward…he has very good vision and has the ability to take every play to the endzone.

Weaknesses: He isn’t a big back so he has to answer the question whether or not he can be an effective runner in between the tackles…can he be an effective blocker considering he is on the smallish size and wasn’t frequently used as a blocker while at East Carolina?…whenever an undersized back enters the NFL, injuries are a large concern…does he have the complete game to be a featured back…not coming from a traditional power he didn’t play against the top competition that college football has to offer…failed miserably to help out in pass blocking at the Senior Bowl...tries to take every play to the outside, which is unlikely to work in the NFL

Overall: Chris Johnson has some remarkable upside if a team can coach him up on several different aspects of the NFL game. His speed may tantalize some NFL GMs and scouts to select him a little earlier than maybe he should be selected. Initially he might be best suited as a 3rd down back in the National Football League, where a team can use him on screens and draws to maximize his speed. He also has some upside potential in the return game, so that could boost his value in the minds of NFL teams. He may be a bit of a "tweener". His lack of blocking ability has to concern a team that wants to use him as strictly a third down back.

not only will he not be very good, he's just not what we look for. he's a third down back who can't block(chris henry) and he's a runningback who can't run inside.

if you want to turn him into a WR, great, but there are MUCH more polished WRs to pick from at #24.
