Released by the Panthers and a lot of their fans are confused as to why. Supposedly had tons of potential but plagued with concussions, and they have enough LBs to where he didn't make much sense to keep.
He may be able to play the outside, backing up Bulluck. Or even play the middle. Maybe knock Fowler off the roster?

Thing is, no panthers fans are regretting the cutting of Wahle. He only got beat the last 2 seasons.

A middle linebacker with concussion and achilles injury history is not an upgrade for anyone.

Wahle was in the pro bowl 2 years ago from memory. If we let Mawae go and Olsen retires, I could see bringing Wahle in to provide some veteran presence inside.

Wahle sucks. The only reason he made the probowl was because of Packers fans. Go to a Panthers board, and see how happy they are about him getting released.

By Gloat standards, saying someone sucks no longer means anything.

Wahle is not a pro-bowl level player any more and he has had shoulder problems for the last 18 months or so. But that is not why he was released. Wahle's salary cap figure in 2008 was $7.242m!!! At that number he was always going to be cut. It doesn't mean he sucks.

He's 30 years old and probably has another 2-3 years left. He's obviously not worth the $7m price tag, but for a $3-4m (total), 2-year deal he would be a solid addition.

And he also sucks. He wasn't worth 3 mill, let alone 7. I'd take Panthers fan's perspective over anyone that just sees that he made the pro-bowl one year (so he must be great!).

Admittedly I didn't watch him much this year, but I did catch a couple of Panthers games last year and watched him a lot with the Packers. The Panthers also converted to a zone blocking scheme this year, and for a big ugly like Wahle that is certainly not a good fit system-wise. His primary back-up, Ryan Kalil from USC, was a 2nd round pick last year and so releasing him was hardly a shock.

I did listen to Pat Kirwan discussing his release today and he surmised that he had still graded out well this year and would be a valuable pick-up for a run-oriented team. No offense, but I'll take Pat Kirwan's opinion over some random dudes on a Panthers fan site.

Here's a season review of the Panthers, courtesy of USAToday.
