Copenhagen Suborbitals are close to launching their first test rocket. They've had several ground tests of the engine. The goal is to launch a manned aircraft into space. At starters, it's only a (full-size) test doll, but despite that the rocket is about as close to the final design as it can be.
It's being launched from a military firing range in the Baltic Sea.

It's by far the most impressive and ambitious rocket design in Denmark and it's build by the non-profit organization Copenhagen Suborbitals. Their motto is "keep it simple", which helps keep costs down. They've build the launch ramp by hand and own design and it's being towed towards the firing range by their own amateur submarine, Nautilus.

It's quite an impressive task and I think and hope they will succeed. The launch window is from August 30 to September 17, with the possibility of extension.
There's plenty of pictures and videos of their work at their website:

most excellent. What would be the goal other than the always popular "because its there"?

WOW - so whoever gets to ride that rocket has a view like none other. Literally riding in the nose of a rocket.

Mission aborted. LOX valve jammed and batteries discharged.

A $15 hair dryer should keep the LOX valve ice free, but it's difficult when there's no power. The igniters were fired, so they need to replace them.

Launched pushed to June 2011. Not because they have to, but because they want to improve several areas. They got a load of data and experience and will now analyze it.

Hm, I'm pretty sure I made an update thread last year. The HEAT 1X rocket flew, not a complete success, but still launch.
This year they have plans for 5 lauches with smaller rockets. Testing 2-stages, active guidence and a launch escape system for an apollo-like capsule. Will update with details about last years launch and this years tomorrow. - First one is scheduled for Friday 27th, 03-07 AM Nashville time.
