The 'problem' is what kind of scheme are we going to run. We played a lot of man last year in a 'zone blitz' D. So are we looking more for zone cb's, man cb's or elite players who can do both?

The beauty in having a zone scheme is you don't need 1st round cb's. But if you have zone cb's and ask them to play a lot of man...not good things will come of it.

King has excellent ball skills, is very competitive, and a very solid run defender. He lacks length, height, and deep speed.

It's not the end of the world if Cupp or others can beat him by a yard down the sideline and it's not something we didn't see in his tape (except the qb's were under throwing the wr's and allowed him to get back into the play most of the time). A lot of times the Senior Bowl is just confirming what you already think.

Why draft him? Excellent ball skills and playmaking ability in zone and some man coverage if he has help over the top. He is a fesity defender who really plays with heart and is more than solid vs the run...which is not usual for a player of his stature. So a guy who can cover, read qb's, catch the int and provide solid run support out of the nickel is a nice player to have. Does that make him a first round guy? No. But a team that has Tampa 2 as it's base coverage would probably love him!

While he has shorter arms than Lewis, he outweighs Lewis by 18lbs despite being the same height! That's a lot of beef for a 5'10 guy!

 

Yes and no. Really depends on the player and how well you are matching theirs strengths with their new position with their new scheme. Look at players like Earl Thomas and Zack Martin!
