Devin Hester doesn't impress me.

    But the Bears ST blocking always does. I think it's apparent by now that Hester really isn't anything special due to how he gets his return yards- 1 cut... run straight for 60 yards. He rarely has to earn the returns he gets. On one return vs the Vikings he simply ran straight ahead... I can't think of 1 other team that a player could do that with.

    Johnny Knox would have the same numbers returning if placed back there. Hell, I'd bet Brian Urlacher could return 7 punts for TDs with that blocking.


    Had to get it out there. Nothing annoys me more than products of a system that ESPN overhypes. Last year it was Darryl Revis... Mr. Above Average corner turned superstar due to system and confidence.

    I agree. Hester is fast and hits the holes well. There are a lot of people in the league that can do what he does, he's just in a position where the people around him make it possible. DeSean Jackson is a far more talented returner (and receiver) IMO.

    Darelle Revis is actually a great example that can be linked back to the Titans too. Remember 2008 when we had a killer pass rush with fat Albert and our whole secondary went to the probowl?

    I agree with this....put Mariani in this system, and I think you see pretty similar results.

    Pac Man would have been unconscious there...if he could stay out of trouble.

    That's why I 'hate' on Hester so much, I suppose. Seeing a guy like Pacman... he was unreal. He'd literally do circles around players, cut, be at full speed, etc... it was insane. Hester's just a 1 cut and run guy.

    It does take vision, and I think he definitely has that. But to me it's like a QB that has 10 seconds to throw the ball every drop-back and 5 wide open WRs to hit (see Manning 5 years ago).

    Yeah, but runningbacks in Denver were breaking records too... would they have done so anywhere else?

    The same can be said for any players individual accomplishments.

    Does Tom Brady throw 50 TD without Moss and Welker? Hell no. He never even got close to 50 before they arrived.
    Does CJ get 2000 yards without our OLine and VY? Nope
    Does Jerry Rice get all those TD catches without Young and Montana? Nope
    Does Emmit get all those rushing yards without his OLine and Aikman/Irvin? No way.

    Every players achievements are reliant upon his teammates helping. It's a team sport. Every time the Bears ST gives Hester a crease, he winds up dancing in the end zone. That is impressive to me.

    What the heck does Marc Mariani do differently that makes Titans fans size him up soooo much?

    I've never seen him run anything BUT a straight line, yet half the posters in this thread act like hes our only bonified weapon..

    When has Mariani ever "earned" a return..Don't hate on Hester he's just doing his own thing. Would you like him to not burn defenders 60 yards on 1 cut? He can't help that ESPN sacks him.
