Depends what you mean by stand out. Baseball has great players like any sport.

So I get what you are saying.

 

If McCutchen was in a bigger market then he would be MLB's star. Like the poster above said, most of MLB marketing is done locally. The players don't have a huge national presence, if so, it's traditionally the guys that crush 40+ balls a year.

 

The fact that DGB's off season thread has deteriorated into NHL and MLB discussion is certainly good news for him I guess.

 

basketball players get a ton more face-time on screen too.

Even the great baseball players, we only see a few times a game unless they're pitchers.

 

Pujols is the the only listed guy I've even heard of. And I'd never be able to pick him out of a lineup, not sure I've even seen him before. Lebron I'd recognize anywhere I would think, and I pay equal attention to both MLB and NBA. Which is none.

 

Alex Rodriguez? He's still around; not too much longer though.

 

Know the name, no idea what he looks like though. I might be able to pick out Bautista maybe. If that's even how you spell his name lol.
