I need help settling this debate between Creeping-Cruds and I. I'm wondering what is the overall opinion of the GoTitans posters.

I say, it is LUDICROUS to compare VY to Akili Smith. Here are the key stats...

    Vince Young
    2006: 184 of 357 passing. 2199 yards. 12 Tds, 13 Ints. QB Rating 66. Rushing yards 552, average of 6.7, with 7 Tds, 6 fumbles.

That's 2700 all purpose yards, 19 TDs, and rookie of the year.

    2007: 238 of 382 passing. 2546 yards. 9 Tds, 17 Ints. QB Rating 71.
Rushing Yards 395, average of 4.2, with 3 Tds, 5 fumbles.

    That's 2900 all purpose yards, 12 Tds.

    Akili Smith
    1999: 80 of 153 passing. 805 yards. 2 Tds, 6 Ints. QB Rating 55.
Rushing Yards 114, average of 6.0, with 1 Td, 4 fumbles.

    That's a whopping 900 all purpose yards, 3 Tds.

    2000: 118 of 267 passing. 1253 yards. 3 Tds, 6 Ints. Rating 52.
Rushing Yards 232, average 5.7, with 0 Tds, 14 Fumbles.

    That's 1400 all purpose yards, 3 Tds.

In 2008, VY barely played. In 2001 and 2002 Akili Smith barely played.

EVEN IF Vince Young were to retire tomorrow, he has already accomplished much more than Akili Smith ever did.

What am I missing here Cruds that makes VY = Akili Smith?

vince has also been to a pro bowl, the playoffs, and has won rookie of the year. This is one of the dumbest arguments i've ever seen.

Is that stat right? 14 fumbles!!!

Obviously VY has been more productive than Akili Smith. At a number of teams, VY would still be a starting QB.

As a passer vince is not that much better than smith was. 22 Tds with 32 ints is not acceptable. Vince has benefited from having a better team and is clearly the better runner.

Winning the ROY 2 years ago will hardly benefit our team now. In the 4 preseason games and 2 regular season games in which vince had significant playing time he was akili smith reincarnated or at best rick mirer.

Everyone blamed chow for vince's 9 td 17 int season but with the dinger system vince has showed us nothing.

In 6 games vince was 51 of 100 with 1 Td and 3 ints but here is another interesting stat. Vince in those 6 games had 7 sacks while kerry was sacked just 8 times in 14 full games.

Nobody can feel comfortable about having vince as our starting QB next year. I will gladly support him and cheer for him and his running ability can make up for problems as a passer but the expectations will be high next year and we expect our team to win the division. I would much rather have kerry back for one more season.

What surprises me is that VYs QB rating was higher in year 2. His numbers were better as far as TD/INT ratio his rookie year, he had more total TDs and less total turnovers but had fewer yards....and his overall rating was 5 pts lower. Just looking at the stats, his Rookie year was clearly better than year 2.

    The turnovers are staggering.

I'm hoping Cruds will comment on that when he gets a chance to read the thread. I could see the "teammate" angle giving a plausible argument that Vince is about as bad as Akili. I honestly don't remember what players were on Cinci's team back when Akili played.

I wonder what Vince's stats and performance would've been like on that Cinci team.

    According to NFL.com anyway.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly how QB rating is calculated. I'm pretty sure the factor that makes it higher in 2007 over 2006 is Vince's completion percentage actually increased almost 11% in his second season.

What good is that when you have more turnovers than TDs?:irked:
