At this point in time it is unrealistic to get them to settle for $5 million a year. But had we given them a new deal even before they went into the final year of their rookie deals it would have been much easier to lock them up. The point is moot now but I am being more critical of the way our FO has dealt with our players in the past. Prime example is AH, had we locked him up long term before the year we tagged him we definitely would have been able to get him signed well below the $100 million range he got in DC. Same with McCourty and Griffin, we gave them huge deals optimistically hoping that they would play up to those salaries instead of paying them what they are actually worth.
