Eagles fire DC Sean McDermott

I can't disagree with you more. Our defense has been horrible for 2 straight years and underperformed our talent level for 2 straight years. Drama is not an excuse for that.

If fisher retains Cecil and Robertson after 2 years of horrible pass defense he is an idiot who deserves to hit the road himself. We have 3 veteran players in our secondary who have made pro bowls in the past yet for 2 years we can't seem to cover anybody.

 

We need a new DC and i'm getting sick of watching these guys getting plucked up elsewhere:
- McDermott
- Singletary
- Rob Ryan
etc...

The more time that goes by the more i think we're sticking with Cecil which makes me sick.

Our best defensive coach by far is Washburn.

Wouldn't he be interested in the D Coordinator position?

 

Our D-line would suffer if he were over the whole Defense, and who knows if he has the coverage knowledge to call these things. Sometimes people are outstanding position coaches, and that is it.

If anything, get a DB coach (non-Cecil) to call defensive schemes, not DL coaches. I've always seen Washburn as a fundamentals guy, not a scheme guy.

 

Valid points on Washburn, but what about all these defensive minds we're letting slip through our fingers?

 

I sure hope not. Washburn is by far the most over rated Titans coach. With that said, I'd still say he's still one of the better D-Line coaches around. His philosophy requires no thinking, it's put your hand down and go.

Our next defensive coordinator is going to have to come from the outside. We can't keep promoting under qualified coaches from within, and expect to be any good. Hiring Cecil was a last minute, save a dollar kind of thing. Until the Front Office is serious about winning, they'll keep Cecil while all the good candidates go elsewhere.

Vikings got Singletary.. as a LB COACH.

agreed....if we lose washburn we are going to be in the bottom 10 for defense if we keep the same staff and personnel.
