Earl Campbell paying price for punishing running style

Running style..

I'm not sure it matters most of the time. Obviously there are some backs like tony dorsett who don't take a lot of direct hits but nobody can say that curtis martin and tiki barber didn't take a lot of hits. Maybe because earl was so physical the only place to hit him was down low but he didn't have a super long career either. Emitt smith had twice the career carries earl had.

It probably doesn't help to be carrying a lot of extra weight. How heavy is earl these days?

 

that reminds me of something he said a few years ago. a reporter asked him if there was one thing he would do differently in his career and earl said "go out of bounds more"
