We were discussing recently WR and how we are thin at that position due to injuries or lack of experience. We have Nate Washington as our number one guy and Damian Williams is starting to be the number two target.

    My question is this.

What are the expectations here for Donnie Avery? Are the coaches expecting him to be a solid second or third option at WR or is he just going to be one of those guys we sign who end up invisible and never contribute.

I'm certainly thinking he will be better than Lavelle Hawkins wouldn't you?

Wondering if they plan on eventually having Avery in there regularly or if he is going to be coming in sporadically.

After all he was the first receiver picked in the draft the year before we got Britt. He had nearly a hundred catches the first couple seasons before he got injured.

Hoping maybe he can get back up to speed and ressurect his career here.

Nate may be our best wide-out, but he's not playing the No.1 WR role. Pretty sure Nate was being kept at the Z position and letting Williams and Hawkins switch in and out as the X...

Be patient. Playing him too soon would only limit what our offesne can do. I fully expect Donnie to be a viable option in time. He's got plenty of talent to eventually take Williams or Hawkins spot.

pretty sure i read somewhere that DWill was playing the X because of his size while Nate was on our Z....
Munch said Avery was there for depth... might switch in and out on a rotation in slot with Hawkins and Mariani and is also there in case someone cramps up or something...

He should be able to beat out Hawkins eventually. I doubt he'll be ready for at least another month or two to seriously compete for a spot though. Like I said in another thread, he was cut and passed on by multiple teams. That doesn't bode well for either his knee or his abilities post recovery.

I imagine he's just not ready to play yet and the Titans were willing to wait it out while they gave Williams and Hawkins a shot to step up. I think he could potentially be good again, doubt it will be this year though. I think the Titans picked him up as depth, nothing more and will look into resigning him if he pans out pretty well.

I'm getting tired of waiting on him honestly. I mean how hard would it be to beat out Mariani or Hawkins? How hard is it to learn 5-10 plays in an offense? He's definitely faster than either of them. The only thing I can think of is that he's not 100% healthy.

I doubt you will ever seen a Titan fan wearing an jersey with the last name Avery on it.

Hopefully, he's had his head seriously in the playbook, since he hasn't been able to get his body on the field.

Not expecting anything at all from Avery this year, unfortunately. It would be nice to have 2 guys that could stretch the field while DWill and Cook eat up the underneath.
