Curious about these young guys that made the initial 53, but didn't last.

Mehdi Abdesmad was an UDFA that made the initial 53, but was cut when the Titans signed Jace Amaro. Tre McBride made the initial 53, but was cut when Mariani returned.

Hard to imagine the emotional rollercoaster of making the team, and within days, being cut. Both of these guys are on the practice squad now, but I'm curious if some sort of payday was triggered by making the initial 53. Is there a consolation prize?

The consolation prize is $100k a year for playing scout team in the NFL

they could also become active any time, so yea its a hard pill to swallow at first, but $100k for nothing sure sounds good to me

How much money do practice squad players make?

Practice squad players earn paychecks on a weekly basis. They may not be getting the same huge paychecks as players on the 53-man roster, but they aren't exactly earning minimum wage, either.

For the 2015 season, practice squad players can make no less than $6,600 per week. While the minimum salary for a rookie in 2015 is $435,000, a full season on the practice squad would earn a player more than $100,000 for the year. Alternatively, without being contractually obligated, players are released with no financial penalty.

100k is good money but scary money as it could end at any time. I would hope most of these players understood before coming in to the league how hard it is to stick. They really need to maximize the degrees they get while playing college ball.

    LOL

totally agree but not many employers looking for idiots with fake degrees whose biggest assett is being a failure at football at the professional level. Or a success as a college football player. Whatever.

So outside of semi-pro leagues, and there are some, a good chunk of these guys have virtually zero to offer an employer.

That's why I was saying they should talk school serious. If Fitz didn't work out in the league he would find a job no problem.

honestly these guys should seriously consider the US Military. If they have not ruined their bodies, and they probably have not, then that would be an excellent place to utilize their leadership skills, if they have any, and learn marketable skills.

but most are idiots so eeeehhhh......
