Well while it would be nice to resign our guy... It looks like he is wanting to be payed as an elite CB.... I love finny as much as the next fan, but considering how many rookies we have right now and the contracts of McCourty and Verner on the rise.... Where exactly do we draw the line?

You use the franchise tag to make sure to not lose him for just a comp. pick. You then see where the market goes in terms of CB $$$ and adjust accordingly. If Finny is still not willing to sign a fair deal then you look to trade him to a team that is willing to sign him to his type of deal. You keep your pulse on the FA market to see if a decent replacement can be found.

I don't think that Finny would pull a Charles Woodson and sign the tag immediately. Even if he did we have enough cap space to absorb it.

    Pretty much sums is up.

Offer him a fair dea, Top-10 CB money but not elite CB money. If he signs great. If not tag him and use the exclusive rights. Which basically opens him up to the free market for picks.

Being we have the cap space now, it might be worth it to front load his contract and nock off 25-30 mil in the first couple years. Really dependent on how our other contracts are lining up and how the raises next season might affect it.

No way he deserves as much as Joseph got from Houston. He doesn't make nearly the impact Joseph does.

No way we franchise him either. We have around $30 million in cap space and his number would take a THIRD of all the money we have to spend this offseason. Do you guys really want to use that much money on him? I would spend it on a huge difference maker like Mario Williams. But not Finny. He's not even close to being worth that.

My main concern is veteran presence....

    Consider this

    1. Darrelle Revis - 2011 Salary $12,000,000 - Base Salary $7,000,000 - Signing Bonus $0 - Other Bonuses $5,000,000 - Contract 7 years / $55,000,000 - Signing Bonus 7 years / $0 - Guaranteed Money $27,540,000 - Last Year of Contract 2016.

    Really Finny?

Problem with tagging him is that he might decide to be really disruptive to the team. He could hold out of show up in camp and not really go 100%. We all know he's capable of that stuff because of the stunt he pulled last training camp.

If the Titans feel like they will never be able to reach a deal with him, they might just not bother tagging him and move on altogether. The comp pick the team will get back will be roughly equal to what they could get for him if they tagged and traded him.

Sat here and watched my Atlanta Hawks overpay for Joe Johnson and I hope I don't have to see the same thing with Finnegan.
