If Carroll would have watched film, he'd known Fisher tries a fake punt in every first preseason game. It's a Titans tradition!

I don't expect to see it much in the regular season because Kern almost had as much hang time on his pass as he does his punts.

I thought Kern could immediately replace Simms, hangtime or not...

Am I the only one that realizes Fisher DOES call "trick plays" during the season?

He calls them more than a handful of coaches, actually. Difference being he stops calling them altogether when one doesn't work.

Name all the "trick plays" Fisher has ran in the past 3 seasons.

You shouldn't need more than 2 seconds to count them.

I remember a trick onside kick (pretty much what the Saints did), and a fake punt run off the top of my head.

What games were these? On the fake punt run, are you meaning last preseason's?

No it was a regular season game, I just remember it was a direct snap to the runner, and because the snap was at such an angle the long snapper threw it from his side instead of through his legs....The onside kickoff was at the opening kickoff of a Colts game I believe.

Are you talking about the multiple onside kicks vs the Colts when we "had nothing to lose", so we just threw everything at them? That's been a few years back.

It's to set teams up to think that we're unpredictable.

Of course even the way Fisher does it is predictable.:clown:

I'm sure Kern will improve on his throwing ability if he works on it. Hentrich was one of the best at trick plays.

No doubt it took a lot of practice to get there though.

I think the fake punt you're talking about was vs. the Ravens in 2006, when Nickey and Troupe blew the handoff before Troupe scooped it up and ran for 40 yards. Unfortunately, the "Dave Casper/Holy Roller" rule mandates that on fourth down, only the player who fumbled the ball can legally recover it...and since Nickey was the last player who had possession, he was the only one eligible to recover it.... so Troupe's run was wiped out and the Ravens took over at the spot of the fumble.

I seem to recall Vinnie Fuller making a big play on a fake punt....but I don't remember if that was preseason or regular season.

Basically, it's like someone else said....Fisher is a pretty conservative coach who takes significant risks only when he has little or nothing to lose. This relatively safe approach will win more games than it loses, which is fine in the regular season...but in the postseason when the stakes are higher, he becomes even more conservative, and ventures outside the box only when the situation is completely hopeless.

Personally, I'd prefer to see him be a bit more aggressive when it matters....go for the throat and play to win, instead of circling the wagons and playing not to lose.
