i think cower falls into the same category as gruden. can you ever see him on a college sideline with 100 kids under 22?

Bronco Mendenhall is the best option, but I bet he wont be mentioned. Is there anyone you'd rather have in college? I'd actually pull for UT if they got him.

I think Fulmer was a good coach who has lost a step. I think he was and still is probably a great recruiter. However, I don't think he was EVER a great coach. In college football factory schools, it's not hard to avoid a losing record. You get most of your games at home, and can pay far inferior schools to come into town and get blown out. It's a little harder in the SEC, because you're guaranteed at least 2 or 3 decent opponents per season, but that still makes it pretty easy to avoid a losing record. Fulmer was given astonishing amounts of money and power, and he only won the conference twice in 17 years! The talent pool coming into UT was/is very impressive, and anyone should be able to coach those people into a semi-decent record.

I don't have strong feelings against the man, but things like his all time win-loss record and number of players drafted are remarkably deceptive.

I think he did some good things for UT, but it was time for a change.

A head coach doesn't have to be a great Xs and Os guy, IMO, if they can get the right coordinators working under him. What he must be is a great recruiter and Fulmer hasn't brought in the talent lately.

Add to the fact the talent they do have is underachieving and that points to motivation. Motivation is a direct reflection on a head coach, IMO.
