Finished reading the book and I have to say it was well worth it. The best book to tv series I can think of. I did enjoy the danyareus storyline more on hbo than the book, it was my favorite part of the hbo series.

More people need to know about this, I haven't read the books and I loved the hell outta' the first season. Honestly it's near the top of some of the best stuff I've seen on television.

I saw a brief video on how much cgi is in the show. It's amazing how little "real life" they actually used. I'll try and find the video again.

Just saying, I'd bend the knee for Queen Daenerys.

As much as I grumble about some of the visual choices in the series (basically that the Direwolves are virtually non-existent, and they're fairly important staples for the Stark children in the books), the CGI is pretty remarkable.

Clearly, given the fairly limited budget (in a vacuum anyway - I'm sure it's remarkably high for TV), they had to do a lot of CGI to create this world. And while the environments and the "grandness" feel a bit dwarfed to me, they did some really nice work. Just watching the "Behind The Scenes" of the CGI was pretty impressive.
