It sounds like Reinfeldt has our team going in the right direction. Personally, I am glad to see that we aren't just thinking about taking a QB and starting him immediately on day 1. I'm glad he brought up other QB options (via trade). Also, I like the idea of the new(er) d-line scheme. Run stopping DE's are where its at, IMO.

The same things that you posted about, are also what I enjoyed seeing in the interview with Reinfeldt. It's not "run stopping ends" that you should cheer for, it's coming from the 7-technique as apposed to the 9.

Here's an illustration for anyone scratching their heads at this 7-technique thing

To me, having your ends start from the 7 is so much easier on your LB's to pick and chose the gaps they fill. The 9-technique makes you think, thinking has no place on the football field. What you're doing should be 2nd nature, and natural. IMO coming from a 9 just puts too much pressure on our average LB's to make a play.

It seems as though the pocket would collapse faster in the 7 scheme (if properly implemented).

Absolutely. The thing is, if we shift entirely into a 7 for the most part, Ford & Babin go to the bench. Something to think about when deciding both their faiths.

All that 9-technique does is have our ends over pursue and create a back door for backs to scamper through. Maurice Jones-Drew has made a highlight reel of this.

Babin and Ford won't need t go to the bench. Neither will be on the team next year.

Actually Morgtan fits the new scheme real well. JJ might even move to DE now.

It depends. With Ford-type players, definitely not, because they would have to physically beat the OT. In the "Dwight Freeney" 9 tech, all you have to do is beat the OT to the spot, get around him with one move, and you're there. But you see how the Colts do vs. the run game.

7 Techs (and 5,4, and so on) need tougher players, and I'd personally rather have DEs who are all-around football players (like Morgan hopes to become) and not just pass-rush specialists. Let's just say Jevon Kearse would not have been so good in this system. Jared Allen or Kevin Carter would definitely be.

I agree with the poster above who mentioned Jason Jones to DE. I think he would be perfect for it. Draft or sign a DT, and move him over.

This talk has me excited for Morgan. Here is a sampling of whats to come. He's the LDE lining up in a 7-technique. That's CJ Spiller he's tacking for a loss BTW.

Just too bad he got hurt last season, I feel like we're about to go draft him all over again.
