I dont know what they think about the policy, I was referring to the punishments. I have no idea what the players think of the actual reasoning behind the punishments. But again, it seems that most of the player reps were wanting a harsh punishment. Whether they agree with the commissioner's reasoning and policy, I dont know. But I would have to think they that this policy was discussed to some degree between the league office and players union. But not being there, I obviously cant say for sure.

The NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, sent a powerful message yesterday that he intends to clean up the league's image by suspending Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones for the entire 2007 season as punishment for a long record of off-field offenses.

But Gene Upshaw, the head of the NFL players union, sent an even more powerful message when he released a statement in support of the commissioner's right to make such suspensions. Goodell also unveiled a new personal conduct policy for all NFL players, and Upshaw endorsed the policy.

"The NFL Players Association and the Player Advisory Council have been discussing this issue for several months," Upshaw said. "We believe that these are steps that the commissioner needs to take and we support the policy. It is important that players in violation of the policy will have the opportunity and the support to change their conduct and earn their way back."

Good reference, however, he stated the Union supported the policy. Whether Upshaw supported PacMan's Jones year long suspension wasn't mentioned. I think we will see a different statement from Upshaw when (and I sincerely mean IF) a major market, well-liked player player gets as harsh a suspension for a first time conduct detrimental violation.

It appears Pac also recognizes not F with the NFL if he doesn't appeal.

Even IF the appeal goes through, his courts and everything will prevent anyone from overturning the decision. He would have to be cleared first, I would think, to even attempt to get out of his suspension.

IF he does appeal, and wins, then we have to pay him, his contract will be up sooner and who knows if he'll stay in Tennessee after all this fun. I can see him starting over "fresh" with another city.

That would be the coup d'etat of Bible belt provincialism to let a "reformed" premiere athlete leave the city that endured a hardship such as this has been.

Most of the people in Tennessee want him out, some even let him know when he's driving around in town. The media doesn't want him around, Tennessean has a vendetta against him, and he isn't too fond of the radio show hosts like Wycheck either. I know I would seriously think if staying in Tennessee was in my best interest.

Be careful what you wish for people, it might just become reality and bite us in the rear.

I'm hoping if he does the WVU thing, stays clean and makes it back, a lot of the irrational "jim-stick" mentality will transform. Southern born and bred myself, we are a passionate people. Sometimes irrational, but pretty much always passionate.

It would be really awesome for Pac to receive the recognition his talents deserve. What a feel good story it would be..........

Imus’ words did no real damage. Let me tell you what damaged us this week: the sports cover of Tuesday’s USA Today. This country’s newspaper of record published a story about the NFL and crime and ran a picture of 41 NFL players who were arrested in 2006. By my count, 39 of those players were black. Jason Whitlock - ESPN

This may help explain his policy of getting tough.
