http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8...ons-toronto-raptors-memphis-grizzlies-sources Raptors offering Calderon and Ed Davis. Davis is a nice prospect and adds much needed youth and athleticism in the post. Calderon is a solid player, can contribute for a title team, and is on a very friendly expiring contract (10 mil).
^ If Memphis can get rid of Gay for Calderon, Davis, maybe a filler/scrub like Kleiza (expiring 4 mil), and even a first rounder, that would be a SWEET deal. Memphis has a win now window and while their team is very good, probably good enough to go deep into the playoffs, the question is can Conley, Gay, Randolph and Gasol beat Westbrook, Durant and Ibaka? I don't think so and I don't think the Grizzlies think they can either. Gay is good but overrated and getting paid superstar money, and I don't think Memphis would even downgrade with Calderon and Davis. Then you make another deep run into the playoffs and keep a high morale, resign Calderon at a discount and have enough cap to get a max player in the offseason, that missing piece that can get you to the finals.
I agree that Gay is overpaid. The deal would be sweeter if they could get that draft pick back. Ed Davis is a curious player. He has all the tools and was a beast coming out of college but his production has been limited in the league. The Grizz are the only team in the west that have any chance of taking out the Thunder in my opinion.
The only way I would be OK with a trade like this is if they threw in Terrence Ross or a 1st round pick... http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=cxgfy2f Rudy Gay for Calderon and Ed Davis? cmon man..I'd be pissed... If we trade Rudy, we need a small forward in return...that has been my stance since all this trade talk started...If we lose Rudy, the only small forward on our team will be Pondexter, who is hurt. I think this could really hurt us. Also, I heard they were talking about Calderon and Davis for Rudy and DA...if that's the case then they can >>>
