I never played any of these, it was a black out period for me, should I? Will it be fun, or will I look at the games as watered down version what is out there now?

I'll put it this way; I'd rather re-play Half Life 2, let alone play 2 NEW games in the series, than 90% of the games out right now. I'd invest if I were you....

Half-Life 2 , to many, is a Top 3 FPS of all time

you can group it right up there with:
    Gears of War
    BioShock
and some might even put it in front of Halo

    personally, I think it's awesome
and a MUST play / own for FPS fans

Half Life 2 Kicks ***. I would say the game is as good as any 2007 game except for BioShock because of the fun gameplay and puzzle solving. I'd have to rank it in my top 5 games. Every scene is a mystery, as you don't really know what your real purpose is or who you are. So the story is real good so far. The puzzles are terrific. The best puzzles I've ever had because they fit right into the game. The Weapons are amazing. They really play well into the solving o situations. The Enemies are not that smart, but it doesn't matter, the gameplay is so much fun. There is always this sense that you have to keep moving, and running, and yet you still have to think as you do that. I like the pace a lot. The cut scenes are fun as they are not only a sense of relief, but build the story. The vehicles are generally fun.

The hardest parts for me so far: Flooding the room. It took me about 40 minutes to find the wheel. I had no idea what to do or how to do it. In Ravenclaw, where the zombies are everywhere, I had a hard time finding the lever to get me across the rootops and too the crazy dude with the shotgun. I really struggled there.

Overall, you really feel as thought the developers get it. They went all out in this game and there is no repetition whatsoever. It's been a lot of fun.

Right now I'm in the tower, walking beams, and you get a real fear of heights up there. Pretty cool.
