Happy Veterans Day; Thank you vets

But seriously, thanks to all the vets. A lot of people do not realize the commitment & dedication people of the armed forces give to keep our country great.

 

I suppose we'll never, ever overcome blind jingoist nationalism. Been at war for over 90% of our existence but almost none of it for "protecting freedom" since 1776. Enjoy the holiday, but realists find it offensive.

 

you must have a loose definition of War

 

I define it as "exertion of organized military force to make a gain or acheive a political goal".

I also don't know of any other profession in which you can work for 4-8 years in non-combat roles and then get benefits paid to you decades later. Seeing a lot of that in my circles; most would define that as socialism. Right now we taxpayers are paying monthly dividends to at least three people I know personally who have done nothing but stay completely stoned their entire lives ever since they left their brief military service 20-45 years ago. We bought a home on Maui for one of them. So much for the defeat of communism.


Sorry for the downerism; I just get really annoyed at nationalist hypocrisy. Enjoy the holiday, and be sure to crank some Spinal Tap sometime as well
