SUMMARY: The agent for Albert Haynesworth, who received the franchise tag in February, is not optimistic a long-term deal will be completed for his client by the July 15 deadline meaning he would play under a one-year tender that can't be extended until after the last game of the regular season. "There has been no significant movement from the Titans on a long term deal since prior to the Combine in February and I don’t think this will change before July 15th," agent Chad Speck said. "We have spoken several times in the past few weeks and our conversations have recently focused on an idea that I proposed in March which would require Albert to sign the tender but in return the Titans would agree not to use the franchise tag on him again next year."

I wouldn't read much into this. I've actually been surprised it hasn't been in the paper/talk radio/THIS forum much more over the past two months.

These things seem to go down to the wire.

MR will replace him with some injury prone guy that used to be good next season. No biggie!

Or we could draft another huge DT that doesn't play up to his potential until his contract year and even then he struggles to stay healthy. No biggie :hmm:

You mean AH is trying to get more attention to further his own agenda through the media? No way.

    The 2 year plan.

Best thing now is to work out a way we can keep him at least 2 more years while leaving no hard feelings and at least the hope for a long term deal later.

Haynesworth is going to make a little less than $8M in salary this year. Offer him a one year contract for about 500K more than that with about a $3M SB and a $1M RB. That gives him a little extra with money upfront so there are no hard feelings and we can still negotiate. In this situation there are no promises so we can and probably would franchise him for 2009 and at least have him for 2 seasons and motivated.

t's obvious he wants a deal like what clement and samuels got $10M and MR just won't do it. This way we keep him 2 seasons and can plan a future without him..
