needing to kill time for a few minutes one day over in HIckory Hollow, I stopped by a Best Buy for the last time.
as a curiosity, me and my kid put on these LG 3d glassed to view a demo.
this flipping Grouper come several feet passed the screen.
LG calls this Cinema 3d and uses the same tech glasses as you'd find at Theaters.
there are some apps, Google Earth was cool on a large screen.
would never have purchased a 3d TV, but they gave me a dozen glasses + a Special Kit of stylish 3d glasses w/ kids sizes too and even a pair of clip-ons for prescription waerers.

    I paid less than $1500

LG has a good thing going with passive 3d. there's no flicker or headache. no need to charge the glasses either. never really use the apps, but the ones I played with are decent.
accepted a 320gb HDD (loaded with media / movies) and SDhc cards via USB.
the set also came with a "wand" remote that is like a mouse / wii controller

about the only LCD / LED I'd purchase

PLASMA should be Panasonic, but make sure you break it in properly

I'll be damned if someone walks by my house and sees me wearing those goofy 3D glasses. 3D should have stayed in the 80s where it belonged.

Wound up getting 55" Samsung 3D LED with some Smart features. I am pleased with the TV.
Also got a Samsung sound bar/sub setup.
At the same time I purchased a Sony BluRay - which crapped out the first day.
Took the Sony back and got the comparable Samsung BluRay and low and behold - it wouldn't even load a disc at all.
Third try was with the slightly more expensive Panasonic BR which I should have grabbed from the outset. Loads 3x faster than any other BR I've owned and seems like a solid buy.

I will say I believe BluRay players in general are flimsy, made-to-break pieces of trash.
They should sell for $12.00 new at the most. I have turntables and old school tube stereos that operate today as good as they did in the 70's. No excuse for blurays to be so poorly made.

Good choice on the LED TV. They give off the best color, and they save a ton of power. Did you wall-mount the Samsung?

i think electronics in general are lesser quality than 30ish years ago. my dad still has some huge, now off brand, speakers that still sound great that he bought in Nam.

Samsung is the way to go if you're getting an LCD or LED. Good choice.

I got a Samsung blu-ray player a couple years ago. I still have it and haven't had any major problems with it other than the loud noises it makes when it loads the disc (and the loading times are very long it seems). I hear Samsung makes the worst blu-ray players and Panasonic makes the best.

Overall it sounds like you came out with just about the best purchases possible.

I think it's going to be an entire year until I'm willing to upgrade my TV.

If I wanted blu-ray when it first came out, getting a PS3 would've made sense because it was the cheapest blu-ray player. I remember a friend of mine spent $1,000 on a blu-ray player back in like 2006. Lol dummy.

Now, all blu-ray players are cheaper than the PS3, so that wouldn't make much sense... Especially since I much prefer 360 for games, as you know.

I'm shopping now for my father-in-law for a 32". Not sure if I want LCD or LED. His chair is 5 ft. away from the TV so he'll be up close.

    Money is no object. :brow:

Some people believe LED TV's can damage the eyes more than other types of TV's. Most LCD TV's are back-lit with LED lights anyways. However, the light is diffused behind the screen, and not directly shining at the screen, so I don't think it would be a problem.

LED TV's have better picture quality over LCD's (way better color contrast and black levels), and are an energy saver, but cost a little bit more. I've got a plasma TV, and I think plasma TV's are better over both LED and LCD. Either way, Plasma, LED or LCD, in this day and age, you will get great picture quality.
