SUMMARY: Craig Hentrich's current contract has ended with the Titans and he is now considering his future. Due to continued back issues, the 15-year vet is going to take some time to think about retirement and the Titans will give him time to make a decision. "I have thought about it the last few years with the injuries I’ve had and the surgeries I’ve had to get," Hentrich said. "But it seems when it comes to that time again I am feeling pretty good, so who knows what is going to happen. I am not sure, I am just trying to decompress after this season. I am just going to take some time to think with my wife and family and go from there." Hentrich averaged 42.8 yards per punt this season.

I would like him to stay one more year. He is a good punter even for his agee. But whatever is best for the man.

Dude needs to retire. A bad back is not something you want for the rest of your life.

Hentrich was a great punter but I think we can do better. I would love to go after Shane Lechler who is also a free agent. He's the best punter in the NFL and could really help out our field position game. Honestly I thought Hentrich was a little below average this year.

I think he is good. But a punter is more or less a punter. I think with the workout regimens of college players these days you're going to get a live leg from just about anywhere. So if he retires, not a big deal to me. I guess what you want in a punter is a kickoff specialist if you can find one, and an emergency FG kicker if needed, and maybe about 1/3 of all punts inside the 20. I'd prefer a big school punter like the kid from UCLA, because you know going into his college career he was special, and likely still is, but the dude from Ball State looks sharp too. UTenn's punter looks dorky, and is a bit below average, but he is available too. Might be easy to give him a look see.

Jags fans might disagree with you, they recently drafted Adam Podlesh and most of the fans seem to hate him.

    drafting Kickers/Punters = Foolishness.

Justin Medlock and Mike Nugent are studs. Good choice.
Think about it, we got Cortland Finnegan in a spot some moronic GMs could've used on a kicker they could have gotten in Free Agency.

    Tom Foolery at its finest.

Well. Look at your game changing punters in todays game...

    Shane Lechler - 5th round.
    Mike Scifres - 5th round
    Andy Lee - 6th round
    Brad Maynard - Round 3
    Sam Koch - round 6
    Josh Bidwell - round 4

The Titans rely of field position big time. Many, if not all of your top punters have been drafted. Maybe you could put Moorman and McBriar in there as undrafted. But overwhelmingly, all drafted.

These are the Free agent punters available if it comes to that:

    Paul Ernster UFA Steelers
    Chris Hanson UFA Patriots
    Dirk Johnson UFA Cardinals
    Sam Koch RFA Ravens
    Michael Koenen UFA Falcons
    Shane Lechler UFA Raiders
    Sam Paulescu RFA Cowboys
    Hunter Smith UFA Colts
Mike Nugent, UFA, New York Jets

There are some good ones out there if they remain unsigned.

A third round pick on a punter is a wasted pick. FAs are always out there, Josh Miller for example. I would be sick if the Titans used anything but a 7th on a kicker of any form.

It's a complete waste. Sign FAs and you have competition for the spot. When you draft somebody, you basically have to guarantee them a spot even if they suck. This isn't a Paul Williams situation either. You generally never have a backup punter on your 53 man roster.

Yeah, some good ones have been drafted, but that doesn't justify drafting one for me, when you have a chance for an every-down player.
    See also my Finnegan example.

Want to see some of the legitimately good players the Bears could have drafted instead of Brad Maynard (in 1997)? here goes:

    Derrick Mason
    Al Harris
    Priest Holmes
    Jon Kitna
    Pat Williams
    Jake Delhomme
    Joe Andruzzi
Grady Jackson (who was good at one point)

I know it's easy to go back and cherrypick names to make my point, but I think I'm getting my point across. You could be missing out on a great player by drafting someone that may see the field 4 or 5 times the whole game, when someone of basically the same caliber can be found without such expense.

Same deal with Bidwell. They could have had
    Jeff Saturday
    Jerry Azumah
    Donald Driver
    Rod Coleman
    Desmond Clark

As far as Kickers go... Sebastian Janikowski was easiest to pick on, (1st rd. pick)
Instead of a good kicker The Raiders could have had
    Bulluck
    Shaun Alexander
    Urlacher
    Jamal Lewis
    John Abraham
    Chad Pennington
    Plaxico Burress
    Adalius Thomas
    TOM BRADY
And instead...They got a pretty good kicker. He sure can kick 'em into the end zone. Too bad they aren't ever in a tight spot in a meaningful game where he would really matter.

long story short. Only idiots draft kickers.
