This may be racist, but I knew she would be Asian.

And by "it'll take years to know if it works in humans" they mean- it'll take years for people to forget they read this story as we still pretend there is no cure for cancer.

Whatever happened to the African doctor that cured HIV?... Bueller?... Bueller?...

I read about this like a year ago, no lie. Maybe not a full year, but it was in early 2011 for sure.

The "years before it works on humans" = the pharamceutical companies will take years to "approve" it because once this is out, a good chunk of their business is gone.

I hope this catches on in Europe. Unlike in America, if something works over there, they save lives by using it.

This is major stuff right here.

    Wet blanket alert:

This really isn't a cure for cancer. It is an impressive and novel treatment modality, still under research. There was not complete tumor eradication even in mice. Human trials may only possibly occur depending upon how significant the data is in mice.

It IS impressive that a young mind came up with idea of combining IR therapy with a chemotherapeutic targeted release. The major advantage is non surgical and focal treatment of tumor masses. It will reduce side effects known with systemic therapy and target only cells with rapid metabolic uptake like cancer cells do. But not really a cure.

And I'm betting there is a huge financial interest in this modality. Many cancer patients aren't strong enough to withstand the systemic effects chemotherapy might have on other body parts that are affected by chemotherapy (intestines, skin, immune system, etc). So it IS impressive.

Regardless of if it is a cure or just an advanced therapy, this new approach WILL make a difference in peoples lives.
