Dialogue is often cringe after you let it rest a few days.

    I have that problem too.

I write a bit then move on to something else. After a couple weeks I'll sit back down with what I was previously writing and the errors and cringe inducing stuff jumps out at you.

    Edit, edit, edit

Get okay with critism. It helps.

I have a few friends that write and they have no problem telling me to put it in the trash.

I worked on a couple of movies a few years ago...I was struck by how little the actors went by the scripted dialogue, and Tarintino writes the best dialogue in my opinion.

Some of the best dialogue in movies is ad-libbed. Most of the time in the script it will say "Character X tells a story," and they just go with something.

Matt Damon's story about his brothers in the barn in Saving Private Ryan was 100% not in the script. Same with Robin William's story about his wife farting in Good Will Hunting.

I'm sure in movies deviating from the scripted dialogue can make a scene appear more natural.

Just don't have that luxury in writing. That is why it can be difficult.

Wow. I'm late to this thread.

Hobbies have kinda suffered over the past couple of years, but mine are...

    1) cycling, cycling, cycling
    2) taking pics of scantily clad ladies
    3) reading (I've just begun reading again after taking a couple of years off... my brain thanks me)
    4) collecting Titans memorabilia of all kinds
    5) travel
    6) hashish
    7) listening to music, going to small venue concerts
    8) big fan of podcasts... I listen to them constantly

That's why I will always respect/appreciate him. Sure he's annoying. And there's certainly some truth to the complaints that he rips off stories/concepts. But the guy doesn't rip off his dialogue and he's a master at it.
