2002: Solid players? Albert played but not at the level you'd expect such a high pick to make. Tank started well but he was hurt and never was the same. Calmus was always hurt. Boiman was a decent special teams guy and you hope for more at some point. Carlos Hall was decent depth for a late-round pick. Don't forget Mike Echols and Tony Beckham. Two late WRs did nothing. Hartwig remains in the league.

2003: Horrible draft and Brown was not reliable. Injuries killed all the early picks and/or they never developed. A first and second-round bust year.

2004: Most the early picks were hurt early and often. Troupe showed some early promise but he never lived up to his draft position. Both LaBoy and Odom were hurt/mediocre up to last season. Starks dropped off after his rookie year. Bell was solid for where he was taken. Same for Amano. But a ton of picks that draft with few really producing.

Add Pacman in '05 and you have a horrible streak of luck with early picks.

The thing with drafting is you must get solid contributors with your first-round picks and quality starters from the second. Once you hit the third and fourth round, you hope many develop into decent starters or role players. From the fifth, sixth and seventh, you hope to find a diamond in the rough occasionally but usually only find special teams talent there (which is also important).

Imagine if a few of those early picks had produced more. The Titans may have made it to another Super Bowl or two while the window was open.

Reese didn't do that bad of a job overall. After getting to a SB in 99 it simply makes sense to do what you have to do to keep the team intact the best you can to get back. If things had worked out better, with a little luck like Eddie not getting hurt and losing to Baltimore in 2000, nobody would have a problem with the way Reese handled things. We did have a couple pretty bad drafts at a point where we really couldn't afford to slip up which made the situation worse. Even at that Reese made a reasonable comeback with his later drafts and the signings of some real solid FAs. MR inherited a fairly talented team with a franchise QB, what should have been a franchise CB/returner and a pocket full of draft picks and CAP money. If MR doesn't get this team back in the next few years to where we can make a run at a SB the monkey is on his back. His first draft was pitiful so far. Right now I'd take 99-2003 over again without hesitation.

Here are some of Floyd's drafted players:

    Steve McNair
    Eddie George
    Jon Runyan
    Derrick Mason
    Samari Rolle
    Benji Olsen
    Javon Kearse
    Keith Bulluck
    Albert Haynesworth

And possible names that one day may be added to that list from his last two years:
    Michael Roos
    Vince Young
    Pacman Jones
    Cortland Finnegan
    LenDale White
    David Stewart

It would be amazing if MR (who can only cite Michael Griffin) could come anywhere near Floyd's resume (and it's not like he was here for 25 years: he drafted all those names in 12 years--only 12 first round picks his whole career). To say Floyd couldn't draft is nonsense.

Floyd had a really bad streak for about 3-4 years straight, and it cost him his job.

The bad part is, I really felt like he was coming back around, and brought in some good talent in his last two drafts.

Unfortunately, three straight subpar drafts resulted in three years of really bad teams. Somebody had to pay the piper....and it was Floyd's day in the barrel.

There was also the ongoing power struggle between Reese and Fisher, which had apparently reached a boiling point. This certainly didn't help Floyd's case, and in all likelihood, probably hastened his departure.

Exact same period of time, here's how many stars Bill Polian drafted:

    Marvin Harrison
    Tarik Glenn
    Peyton Manning
    Edgerrin James
    Reggie Wayne
    Dwight Freeney
    Dallas Clark
    Bob Sanders
    Joseph Addai

And guys that are borderline or played better after moving to other teams:
    Cato June
    Bertrand Berry
    David Thorton
    Robert Mathis
    Marcus Washington
    Mike Peterson

    15 names in 12 years.

when u think about it really its rather pathetic. and its like some1 said some of our players were/r good that we drafted just that we couldnt keep them. and this offseason shows that it is essential to keep your own players....due to such a high salary cap, teams r now able to keep most of their stars. Now emphasis is placed on drafting more than ever before b/c really who u draft is more or so who will be kept. And moving forward now, the cap number is getting bigger faster.

eberry - ur right....about who the colts drafted...its absolutely sick
