If Peyton got hurt or retired before the season, how many games would the Colts win? They would still be good a WR and TE. But Painter and that defense and Run game would hurt them.

This has been discussed before (and is really just common sense). They would be one of the worst, if not the very worst team in the league.

    3-13 at best.
    1 people high five this.

Once Peyton is done, the AFC south is ours for the taking. The Jags and Texans would have to fight for 2nd place.

But like RSB said, they'll be cleaning the cellar for a while.

I am convinced they would be one of the worst teams in the league.

To figure this out, you first need to know how the Colts are built. Offensively as we know, the show runs through Peyton. No Peyton, no points. No points, and that defense breaks. Dwight Freeney is great because teams are constantly trying to shoot it out with the Colts, forcing many extra passing plays. Freeney and Mathis thrive on this very thing. Once you lose what makes your offense work, you can't rely on two undersized DE's to save you games, you crumble, and at best win 3-4 games.

i cant believe the Colts havent got a young guy behind Peyton like the Packers got Rodgers behind Favre.

Painter sucks, they need to have a plan B in place. they prob got about 3-4 more good season from Peyton IMO.

If Manning were to get hurt in the season of course they would suck. But if they knew he was gone because he retired they would just use a 1st round pick on Kolb or Orton to get them by as a competitive team for a few years and re-build. If they had enough time to prepare they would focus more on having a guy or guys to develop. Obviously they won't be able to easily replace Manning but they can certainly find a decent QB at some point. If they did have a God aweful season they could get lucky and draft a guy like...Luck. So comments like they would suck for years to come simply make no sense. If they have good coaching and make good personnel moves there is no reason they can't re-build the team and be decent. Remember also, if Manning were to leave they have all his salary to work with to sign FAs and improve other areas like the running game and defense. I'm not sure without Manning they are much worse off than we are right now.
